RE: third panel. This guy is extremely optimistic but doesn't know it yet. True, building a rocket is easier when you have a working example to reverse engineer, but they still have to create the life support systems. And once they discover the energy costs of pushing all that mass out of the Earth's gravity, they'll also have to re-invent multi-stage designs. The good news is, he's not expecting to shoot the rocket out of a cannon and he's probably got lifetime job security now.

That's why Nagasaki and Hiroshima were so horrifying. We've bombed other cities worse, but that took hundreds of bombs in a sustained raid. One bomb doing that kind of damage was unimaginable, until it happened.
