No one lives forever! part 35.

A cunning plan. Would probably have worked on me.

No one lives forever! part 35.

Three screens, plus the guy at the desk. I think it's probably the one who "killed the golden goose".

Joel Kreissman

On Page 1 of this story, there were five chairs, four of which were occupied by these four members of the Cabal, with the fifth empty chair belonging to Max Solomon. If "None of that" turns out to be Max, I might be very disappointed depending on what he says next.

It also relies on the target being innately honest. If they're able to hide the fact that they suspect a plot, they can conceivably "milk" the largess into concealed reserves for later use. Or at least surprise everyone with a clever escape plan.

Now is this one of Mink's friends (such as Max) interrupting, or is it whomever is behind her kidnapping?

I suspect that anyone would eventually experience the Truman Effect and want out. If it's someone with super powers or metaphysical resources like the Mink's, bad luck, Keepers.

It does work. However, it still requires the beneficiary to trust their mystery sponsors. If the target remains or becomes suspicious of the source of their "good fortune" then this kind of plan will fail. If he's the mastermind behind the kidnapping, Mr. "None of that" just blew it for them.
