Hmmmmm....I guess the silencing of the alarms must have happened off-panel. Another giveaway of this story's late 1970's origin is that physically breaking into a house was regarded as a perfectly sensible way to obtain data files. Storing information in computers was STAR TREK stuff.

   If this was being written today, our heroes would be sitting in front of a 'puter screen, trying to hack into the Thin Man's system. Which makes for more boring comix than daring midnight burglaries do.

It's only boring if you don't use virtual reality to represent the symbolic activity. Which is why shoulder angels and shoulder devils make for more interesting internal arguments.
