Another giveaway of this story's late 1970's origin is that physically breaking into a house was regarded as a perfectly sensible way to obtain data files. Storing information in computers was STAR TREK stuff.
If this was being written today, our heroes would be sitting in front of a 'puter screen, trying to hack into the Thin Man's system. Which makes for more boring comix than daring midnight burglaries do.
