Perer's breaking the forth wall with his pose and where he's looking, but that revelation is SO full of Whisky Tango Foxtrot that hallucinating a floating window with an audience on the other side seems like a feasible coping mechanism. After all, he just found out that he's been helping the very top of the filth and corruption he thought he was fighting. Staring at the face of C'thulu will not leave many with their wordview and sanity intact.
