We Watched Too Many Puppet Master Movies - re:View (part 1)

Kudos to Jack for bringing in the comics! I don't have them so I don't know about the quality, but they don't look too bad...

Juan Calvo

I'm of the growing up with a video store era and I feel like I've seen everyone of these movies despite never actually seeing a single one of them. so many movies I know of by their box cover art that I've never actually seen.

My neighbor is from Germany and I've told him we here in America need some sort of 'Christmas monster' like Krampus. Cause here we just threaten kids with material loss (i.e. coal in your stocking). He said he agrees. Krampus, Svart Pete, La Befana, something.

A part of this is that our idea of "funny" has changed. Creepiness and fear used to have a different place in culture. Just think of the custom to scare children for educational purposes. I think clowns were never just harmless fun, they were always kind of creepy.

Paul Eisermann

So many good stories there... my favorite is how Kinski was about to leave the set somewhere in the jungle one day and Herzog threatened to first shoot him and then himself with a rifle, if he did so... :D

Manuel Johnen

There are fan films on YouTube by now that have better effects and production values than half of the "real" movies... :/

Manuel Johnen

I love homicidal puppets vomiting leeches as much as the next guy, but surely, if you can suffer the entire Puppet Master series, you can review the Borgesian dreadscape that is Phantasm! \m/ \m/

Yngwie Tarantino

She wrapped up her damn cat

TheSingingBush

Werner Herzog made a documentary about Klaus Kinski called 'My Best Fiend' (yes, it's the word "Fiend" not "Friend") that's worth checking out. You will see footage in it showing just how crazy Kinski could get on a film set.

DonMac

"Aguirre" is wild. My college had a showing of it on a big screen and, coincidentally, I was taking a course on the Spanish conquest of the Americas. We could get extra credit if we saw the movie and wrote up a brief description of our thoughts.

Jeremy _

There's been this definite culture shift in the past 30-40 years where several things that past generations thought were funny and delightful--clowns, dolls, puppets, etc--are now universally understood to be bad and creepy. The past one or two generations just reacts viscerally against 'distorted replicas of the human form' as being affirmatively horrific and they've become natural subjects of horror films.

Jeremy _

All this time I had thought it was David *Dakota*

Jeremy _

That bit of trivia about David DeCoteau really hit me like a drill sergeant. This guy took every unexpected turn when it comes to movie making.

Bill Wilson

Hey, it’s Arctus Baran.

andrew

Toulon: “THE BLESSING!!!”

andrew

Do yourself a favor and check out "Aguirre: The Wrath of God" and "Fitzcarraldo", the two best movies he did with Werner Herzog, who is equally insane, just in a different way... :D

Manuel Johnen

This video sparked a long buried memory in my brain of watching Puppet Master 3 at some point in my childhood (as far as I remember, it was on TV and my brother was watching it). For years I had some vague recollection of a horror movie where a toy with a drill head drilled through a guys torso in a car and I think I actually saw that clip in this video. I haven't seen the first two, though. I thought this video would make me not want to watch any Puppet Master movies but it did the opposite, dammit.

Sara Iyer

Reading up on Klaus Kinski got very dark very fast... but I loved everything else about the video!

Will

Woah!! 😳 Ha! That’s great!! Yep really is a small world after all!

Spider-Ham

They could just be lazy and call it “The Real Puppet Master”

The Real Zam

It’s a small dang world, I have family in Pflugerville

Elizabeth Thompson

I will, thanks! I know Fox/Groenig stole this concept because I remember Spider Ham from my youth (born 78 so maybe ten when I saw him?) and that is definitely not when the Simpsons movie came out lol

Elizabeth Thompson

I’m a huge fan of Spider-Ham and that happens all the time. So it was no worries or offense to me at all. I’m a Spider-Ham fan artist! Please feel free to check out my IG and Follow along! Hail Spider-Ham! 🕷️🐷🕸️ https://www.instagram.com/peterporkerspiderham/

Spider-Ham

Yay!! I almost deleted because I was afraid you might take offense! All Hail Spider Ham🥰

Elizabeth Thompson

Spider-Pig is the creation of The Simpsons. A fine pig is he, however he is no Peter Porker: The Spectacular Spider-Ham!

Spider-Ham

How embarrassing ☺️ For both you and me😒

Elizabeth Thompson

Spider Pig was taken?

Elizabeth Thompson

You win…something? Congratulations on what that might be!!

Elizabeth Thompson

Love The Rifleman

Elizabeth Thompson

Muppet Pastor sounds amazing

Elizabeth Thompson

Still holding out for the Muppets / Puppet Master crossover which also serves as a Jim Henson biopic.

The Real Zam

You MUST do Megaflopulus! It's like a Neil Breen movie with a $100m+ budget. Saw it at Alamo in LA and I couldn't stop laughing the whole time.

The Real Zam

"Crawlspace" is NOT a good movie, Jay... ... ...

Manuel Johnen

If you had class you watched Schindler's List. If you were a horror, weirdo, kid you had the Puppet Master Nazi movie.

Heather Sejnow

Two quality drops. From 3 down to 4. And after 6, dives off a cliff entirely.

Mahaloth

This will be enjoyable! Thank you RLM.

GrowSweeds

"1-6 are actually not too bad." Make that 1 - 3...

Manuel Johnen

Yes, I've seen them all.

Mahaloth

1-6 are actually not too bad. It's 7-14(?) are much worse, though Blade: The Iron Cross had a few moments of quality.

Mahaloth

Hell yeah, this will save my evening.

Marco Cabibbo

Glad they mentioned 'Dolls' - a movie that's definitely re:View worthy.

DonMac

helllllll yes!

Tom McGraw

Tourist Trap mentioned! 🎉

Amanda B.

Great to see The Koopa Troop back in action!

Joan

Jack looks like a Goomba from the super mario bros movie

Eli Purcell

Let’s goooooooo

Wes

I used to like the Puppet Master movies, but then they kept getting made again and again and again, which made me no longer like the Puppet Master movies.

DonMac

Yayyy 😁😁😎😎

Lía

Fuck yes!!!! Happy Girth day to me!

Nick Kerr

Oops, all puppet masters

Dave Ruff

Fuck yeah! I’ve been rewatching them too!!

Spider-Ham
