Into Darkness was what broke trek for me - because it was so terrible in every way that mattered, and arrogantly so. It just energetically shit on everything that makes Star Trek distinct from normal SF action schlock. And people LOVED it. So Mike’s monologue at the end really got me. Trying to enjoy the new Doctor Who drove me nuts and ruined the whole thing for me for a long time. Made the original series seem small and stupid, and I felt like a sap for ever liking it. But over the last year I went back to it, and what I liked was still there. Same with Star Wars. I’ve come to realize that the special qualities I value about those things are specific to their prior incarnations, and that the prevailing IP moron driven entertainment mode is antithetical to those things. The new stuff doesn’t count as part of the movies or shows, because it’s just shitty merch.

Tim Kocher

As someone who finds Discovery/Picard truly unwatchable, but loved TNG/DS9/Voyager, I really hope you'll give Lower Decks a shot. It's clearly written by people who love Trek for the same reasons you do. The Tendi/Rutherford characters can feel a bit childish sometimes but otherwise I'd bet anything you'd find it delightful.

So sad to see Star Trek die in Mike’s eyes but I totally get it.

I'd say don't watch the finally as I was ready to throw why 58 inch plasma out the window it's that bad it makes, The first season ending look like All Good Things

The Thinking Cat...Former Cthulhu Pofit Neo Normie and Masked fat guy but now a Cat ??

Someday, I will go see the "Mona Lisa". I believe it's in the Low-vrey!

After Mike was done with the speech, a tear came out of my eye which turned into a bald eagle and flew away!

Rocky Moerman

"Secular blasphemy!" I cried butterfly tears! Love you guys!

On a note not related to "Star Trek"... is it me, or does Mike here really look like Adolf Hitler if he had been accepted into that art school...? :P

Manuel Johnen

this was borderline experimental

The praise flooding my Twitter feed… When did the downward descent of humankind become so steep? When did we even peak? I’m gonna say 1997, the year of Gattaca and the Fifth Element. At least I know I can safely wallow in misery here. Everyone, be kind to yourselves today
