I thought it was a good movie at the time. Now on reflection there are goofy elements that I overlooked in my youth. Nevertheless, narratively, it really did work and I thought Mike and Jay did a nice job calling out the acting and effect elements that stood out. A little Starship Troopers cynicism. I'll probably still never watch it again.

The first 4 minutes of this video are exceptional. A pleasant reminder of what was before these frauds started phoning it in.

The vignettes in this re:View are new. At least I'm not aware to have seen vignettes in the re:Views before this one. They create more focus on the area of the image with the important information (the review), and also create atmosphere, in this case since the vignette is pretty much dark, I guess at the black point, the image feels ominous, like there's something outside of the vignette, that's lurking in the shadows, waiting to intrude and disturb the talk. The darkness of the vignette enhances the deep red of the curtains.

The unintentional reference in person of the miner on the moon base in Space Cop is fascinating. Prompted me to watch Space Cop with the commentary track turned on. And I wondered how any story you wanted to tell, would turn out, if you guys had the ressources to lead a large film team, so that you don't have to do most of the work yourself, while also creating the amount of content your YouTube audience is used to. Plus the PreRec streams. That was superhuman of you guys.

Good stuff. I can't say I was even aware of this movie, but that's what's great about Re:View. You guys can talk about the great movies or you can highlight forgotten films like Freaked, Enemy Mine, or Ice Pirates. I kind of like when you guys dig into the past to expose forgotten stuff to us.

The author put out a compilation of Enemy Mine and related stories in that universe a few years ago. I remember it being a good read with a lot of discussion on language and culture. As for the war, the Humans and Dracs are very similar. Their growing interstellar empires were trying to colonize an area of space and looking for similar planets. Both claimed several planets as their own, refused to concede, and eventually went to war over who had the rights to colonize those planets. Both sides saw each other as barbaric invaders and really never made a large effort to talk to each other. If I remember the story correctly, the Drac child that Dennis Quade cares for gives humanity the opening to begin being seen beyond mindless barbarians and open some form of peace negotiations with the Drac.

It cracks me up when the guys talk about a movie's music because it's clear that they aren't really into film scores. Maurice Jarre composed the music for this and he was a major Hollywood composer at the time. But that fact does make the rather generic music even more disappointing given that it's from someone with a lot of talent.

I remember 9 years old me, sitting on the carpet and watching this film for the first time on TV. It moved me so deeply, and I rewatched it so many times. Then, oblivion... until now! Thank you for bringing back those lost memories!

This movie reminds me of my grandmother more than any movie. She really liked it even though it wasn’t an “old lady” movie. Ironically today was her birthday. I’m probably the only human for whom your Enemy Mine review was some emotional resonance.

Did somebody say, "DUNE!?" Good movie review never saw this one as a kid, looks like for the most part its something I'd of enjoyed - not sure I'd watch it now as an adult.

This was on TV quite a lot back in the day. I must have seen it about 15 times. I watched it again about 15 years ago. I liked it for the same reasons as you guys. It has a good middle section, and kind of becomes less good at the end. But still worth checking out.
