Upcoming Best of the Worst

Anyone remember the 90's TV show Early Edition? It kinda sorta plays into the next Best of the Worst episode. It's a TV show with a pretty neat premise about a guy that receives tomorrow's newspaper a day early and uses the information from it to stop crimes. It apparently lasted 4 seasons, but it seems to be a show that has been completely forgotten to time. Nobody remembers this show!

Comments

So Fisher Stevens actually left the show in the middle of its run and he was the point of view character. After that they got into the mythology of how Kyle Chandler was getting the paper and the people who got it before him, which was...not well advised. But I loved it as a kid, as you can probably tell from all that I can recall of it.

Adam Dukovich

I remember it! and it is one of those magically simple yet brilliant premises

Matt P

It run in my country also in the late 90 and early 00. Was just a kid but the main guy was handsome as i remember...yep googeled the show dark haired seemingly tall guy. Checks out :D :D

Doris Tihu

I think I remember Fyvush Finkel being in an episode, and M. Emmet Walsh in another episode as a drunken Santa Claus that tries to convince the main characters that he's the "real" Santa Claus. Fisher Stevens was in it, and altogether unpleasant if I recall rightly.

Ian Patrick McHugh

I use to watch that!

Lianne Lairmore

Kyle Chandler!

James E Carrey

Whenever I see that actor in stuff like Friday night lights, I'm always like "hey it's the guy from early edition!"

Justin Burke

Yep, watched quite a bit of it, and have good memories of it.

Thomas Koeppe

I remember when phones couldn't leave the house.

Knightskeye

Fat Man had a bulldog, right? In Hawaii? Got to love getting the call for that. "Hey, we've got the perfect part for you! A fat guy!"

John Boltons Mustache

That's sort of how the first season of Person of Interest started. Then poi turned into a crazy transhumanism thing with grenade launchers and killer lesbian super hackers.

Yagsti

I member!

Silentphil9

Fuck yeah. Rip Richard Jeni

Yagsti

I think this was about the time the Fantasy Island remake with Malcolm McDowell was on the air (maybe even the same night.) Disappointed nobody has mentioned Nowhere Man.

Steve

Strange Luck is my go-to forgotten 90s show. It was pretty damn good from what I remember.

Yagsti

The DB Sweeney one was Strange Luck, that was kind of good. Like a proto-Intacto. There were a few time travel shows, maybe you are thinking of Seven Days with Jonathan LaPaglia?

Steve

I remember my parents watching that show

Avin Zarlez

Fisher Stevens!!

catalin j sullivan

I haven't thought about that show in ages ... It's right up there with 18 Wheels of Justice as shows that I know existed but that left no impression at all.

John Boltons Mustache

I fucking LOVED Early Edition.

D

Due South, or as it was known here Mission Chicago was awesome. A Mountie with a dog fights crime in Chicago.... Whilst being polite.

John Boltons Mustache

Holy cow... I reference that show, often, just to confuse people.

Fidel Spears

Remember that other one about a canadian horse guard? WHAT A HIT!

Lelio Mulas

Actually yeah, my mom watched this show religiously!

Jessie Leigh

I loved Early Edition! Any time I see the actor who played Chuck in anything I can't help but get excited. He's in Lost!

John Woodard

I remember that show! The newspaper came with a kitty. And there was an episode where the kitty was sick the paper didn't come.

James Smyth

Ive heard much about that show! My mom absolutely loved it when it aired and ive tried looking for it on dvd to buy for her but ive never had any luck.

Brennageist

Another show that is seemingly forgotten is 'Jake and the Fat Man'. No one remembers Jake or the Fat Man, probably because he died.

Sarzac

I remember seeing commercials for it but never watched it

Chad Whitaker

This sounds like jay was the only one on the panel that knew what this was and hes posting here to make sure hes not the only one who remembers

Michael Uhler

I remember that show. Kyle Chandler was in it, if I remember correctly. But I get that show mixed up with two other ones, and I don't know the titles: One was with D. B. Sweeny, and he could do something special like see into the future? Or was especially lucky? Or something like that. And the other one was with a time traveller who sorta looked like Kyle Chandler, and this guy would hunt down time travelling criminals with a multi-functional credit card. In my memory, those three shows came out at around the same time.

John Reimers

I remember watching that show with my parents when I was a kid. I heard they had to can the show due to the cats cocaine abuse.

Michael Winn

There's actually TWO made for TV Ewok movies.

Red Letter Media

I loved that show.

Tommy Mårtensson

I do remember that show, no Googling. Saw a few episodes. Neat premise. Formula got old.

Top Hat Monkey

If I remember right the guy’s cat would always be laying on top of the paper in the morning. The implication being the cat knew something he didn’t.

Ken

I really liked this show!

Jason Rasmussen

I like the spin off Late Edition...

Tactical Therapist

Ahhhh Man! I used to watch that with my mom. Same as what Wolf359 said.

Martin Charlebois

I remember it! Still think of it every time I see Kyle Chandler.

Ruperthrax

I remember there being a massive crossover with WALKER, TEXAS RANGER and MARTIAL LAW b/c they were all on the same night. I think the MARTIAL LAW bit amounted to a padded up stand-in for Samo Hung knocking over the main guy and some dubbed in dialogue so it was pretty lame.

Sir Alvin Ecarma

Looking forward to the cross-over with Platypus Man.

Just Johnny

Strange luck was another one of those shows

Derek

It was heavily rerun in France for some fucking reason too, holy shit!

Marneus

It was on TV all the time in Italy also... for NO reason. Cat was cute though.

Lelio Mulas

I kind of remember it. Here in Germany it was called "Allein gegen die Zukunft" (Alone against the Future). I think it was a Saturday Morning Show here and I watched it always as a kid. But I dont remember if I liked it or there wasnt anything better on TV XD.

Joshua Reece

He blew it with Michelle Pfieffer? Do tell

Cillian Maguire

Magical cat who delivers prophetic newspapers.

Cillian Maguire

It was on TV all the time in Ireland...for some reason.

Cillian Maguire

My dad loved both that show and The Pretender.

Dane Liergaard

I remember that show! There was a cat in it. A show with a cat is always a good show.

Mathieu Soula

Who remembers The Pretender? It was another 90's high concept procedural show that had a multi-year run but that made no pop culture impact at all.

Ross Nugent

Yeah idk wtf you're talking about. I feel like, with the oncoming wave of 90's nostalgia, ppl are going to forget how much of that decade was just stupid nonsense.

Dave M

I remember that show! My mom and sister would always watch it...the guy from Friday Night Lights was in it...and the guy from Short Circuit.

Steven Simmons

I've been trying to watch my Early Edition tape for seven years but those hack fraud VCR repairmen Tay and Pike won't fix my VCR, god niblets

Chris Arnold

Yeah I remember that, it has the guy who played the Indian guy in short circuit as his buddy who wants him to give it lottery numbers

Gordon Davies

I loved that show! Kyle Chandler and Fisher "I blew it with Michelle Pfeiffer" Stevens.

James Rose

I remember Early Edition. Didn't it have a magical cat or something?

Ben Nathan

Oh yeah! I never watched it, but weirdly I vividly remember the opening where Coach Taylor opens the door and looks down to see tomorrow's newspaper.

Jon G

So bad time travel movies?

Michael flores

this read like a copypasta

Gillian Oakley

I actually lived that very show! Except, in my real life version, the version of the paper I got was yesterday's edition because the man downstairs was stealing my Times every morning.

Alex Woodcock-Clarke

Person of Interest was the updated, Internet version.

Percy Gryce

It was the “Due South” of 90s supernatural dramas

Bucho4Prez

I watched that show all the time as a kid...

Joseph Wohnrade

I remember the one episode where he has to stop a huge traffic pileup and all kinds of deaths and goes one by one to each survivor to warn them or keep them off the road for that day but at one point stopping someone actually *increases* the death toll lol

the rock HUSSEIN jumanji

I remember it. Always felt like a budget Quantum Leap or Sliders.

Paul H

Sort of like the 80’s kids show Today’s Special. Nobody else ever seems to remember that either. Must have just traumatized me...

Lynell Ingram

My friends and I used to joke about it all the time, in our version of the show he looks through the obituaries and tells people they are going to die tomorrow.

Peter Reiter

I remember it, but it was peak inoffensive CBS, so I never cared.

Rick Drake

loved it. Kyle chandelier young in that.

Dave Pallas

Kyle chandler was the star

Blake

I remember this show! He had a blind side-kick and he always kept the paper rolled up in his back pocket where it would never realistically stay

Michael

You're thinking of Fisher Stevens

John Boltons Mustache

That was a good show. Started the guy from Friday Night Lights. I remember an episode where he refused to help peole in the paper and some shit went down. That's all though. 4 season was a good run as it got stale quickly.

Chris

That was a good show! I remember it!

Rose Charpentier

What if we tried really hard to repress remembering that show? Thanks dicks.

DJ Stafford

Also had Fisher Stevens

Blake

Wasn't Fischer Stevens in that?

John Boltons Mustache

I remember it but I can honestly say that ai never saw a single episode.

Shawn O'Halloran

I loved it!

Blake

Early Edition!

Nathan Tipton

I remember that show and Strange Luck.

Joseph Ottaviano

I remember that show! Wasn’t there a cat involved?
