I'm a woman. I couldn't stand the barely-a-script or the acting. I guess that makes me a bad woman ;). Also, can we talk about how you guys said "Pringles" so many times in the review that a Pringles ad now airs before the video! :p

Precisely. Well said, Johan. I commend anyone who makes a genuine political statement in support of the ideas and ideals of feminism. But giving Ghostbusters 2016 a 5-star review does not do that! Watching the "Wannabe" remake, that might be a better thing to do... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZQ2RUFd54o

I just wish Sony had cast sexier brods in those 4 roles, and put them in skimpier outfits. I didn't get an erection once the entire movie. #ripoff

As is often the case with HitB, this video is probably more entertaining than the actual movie.

Adding to the list of movies with a strong female lead: Adam's Rib from 1949. So yeah, I see that Ghostbusters 2016 is a milestone for women's empowerment.

By taking any rating at 5/10 and up as a 'Fresh', to their bineray Fresh/Rotten summation. And then all 'Fresh' are calculated up vs Rotten. So a mediocre movie will score high of Fresh-rating, even it if is only 5.5 on a graded scale.

Kyle, you may want to try reading what was posted instead of making up your own version. Are you perhaps working as a journalist? The movie is no doubt a crappy remake, just as Robocop, Total Recall and many others as of late. For Sony this was a calculated move to make money. The controversy may even have been built by their PR team. But the team behind it on social media (perhaps as part of the astro-turfed controversy) have put out several pictures and posts proclaiming that this is the result of #GirlPower (remember the all-women image, that contained surprisingly few PoC?), pushing the narrative that Feminism is somehow linked to the movie. Hence my post that *if* this movie is somehow a result of Feminism, *as the people behind it seemingly are proclaiming*, then 3rd wave feminism, Sony and the more liberal side of Hollywood has severe issues.

Why do you think it is feminism making it bad instead of it just being an inferior remake? Or did you think Zoolander 2 and Anchorman 2 were comedy masterpieces? Remakes and sequels of most films of any genre tend to be worse than the original. Somehow trying to claim this is feminism's fault actually lends credence to many of the misogyny claims. In other words you are saying it is ok for men to star in a crappy remake but women are to be held to a higher standard

I saw it with a friend of mine and her 10 year old daughter. The girl loved the film. I think most kids today will really like the film, and if we are being realistic, will probably like it better than the original. Maybe when they grow up they will learn to appreciate the greatness of the original, but this movie is definitely more appealing to a kid of today

This review was more boring than inaccurate, but still enough of both. I've disagreed - strongly - on HITB reviews before, but this is the first one that was more annoying to get through than anything. :/

I agree that it is depressing that people have taken on this film as a sort of torch-bearer. There are plenty more films that are more deserving than this. And besides, I'm sure that most real feminists would prefer a film that empowers women on their *own* terms, not through mimicking the actions of men. Jay was so right when he yelled that the Internet had wasted its time. For me, I probably won't bother watching it; I'm not even much of a fan of the original!

Yes, the movie is garbage. If this is part of 3rd wave feminism, to make poor remakes with thin characters and full of hate towards men, then it is doomed to be a failure and as forgotten as this movie will be. Anyone giving this movie 5 stars on Rotten Tomatoes (and a lot of women + few others are) obviously is making a political statement and nothing about the movie. Not realizing they are being suckered by Sony.

I also had a decent experience. I liked the dumbest parts the best, and Holtzman as a hacker/builder. The product placement was depressing, but I think I forget sometimes that old films I liked, from Back to the Future to Donner's Superman, had pointless product placement. Mostly it made me wonder how I would feel if i saw this when I was 9, without any reference to other film.

New chairs ruined my childhood! Anyway, I'm going to do something unheard of and disagree with you without getting angry or thinking you are idiots. I thought it was fairly funny, despite a number of problems. It is nowhere near as good as the original, but I think I liked this better than Ghostbusters 2.
