Yes! My grandmother was the pharmacy director at a hospital, and even though she never had to directly handle the leeches, she absolutely hated even holding the boxes they came in!

There are jobs that should be obsolete even now, and they show no signs of being made so. The level of automation regarding janitorial services in Japan alone proves that, let alone the time lost due to employee burnout.

Leech collector is not as obsolete as you think. Specially grown leeches are still used today to prevent venous congestion, especially in cases of reattached fingers
