My grandad made his own bathtub gin during Prohibition, because he was incensed that a working man like himself (he was a house painter) couldn't have one damned drink after laboring on ladders all day. He was never an alcoholic, but he liked his one bottle of beer every night. He felt it was his right as a freeborn American.
