Tutorial//Low effort shading

Sketch brush is available on patreon! It is in the brush tag and is made for procreate!

This is a tutorial on how I shade ina very quick way! Note that this shading method is not how proper clothes are shaded. Shiny leather-like textiles and materials have more of a shine like this, but I use it very generally. Since this is not a "realistic" way to shade I recommend to also observe in photographs how clothing truly looks like when light hits it. BUT, if you want to test out this method I have a few extra pointers:

1. The goal of the shading method is to be quick to do, and also create a texture that looks different from the skin and other clothing pieces. It looks best if you shade one big thing with this style and then do a normal realistic shading of a nearby object. That way the materials look different and wont blend into together.

2. The highlight is shaped by the main color you apply above the high light. That way you don't have to worry about how you make the lighting, you can just shape the highlights how you want with a larger brush. By using a square-ish brush you can create hard edges, and if the brush has a lower opacity it can also be used to create soft edges. A combo of hard and soft is best!

3. The lighting should follow the limb in question. If the arm bends, so does the highlight.

4. The highlight is not straight, but organic and unique. It doesn't have to be perfect and it should look wild in a way. You can compare it to a lightning bolt from the sky, it twists and turns, is thick in places and thin in others.

5. Remember to use a big brush to shape the hightlight, not too big that it constrains you, but not too small that you end up being detail oriented. Use the large brush to create fun shapes in the highlight and make it follow the curve of the limb.

Hope this will be of help!
