I think it's fun to compare early stages of each illustration to the final product.
Every single time I finish the 1st and 2nd drafts, I have this sinking feeling in my stomach that it sucks. And it does of course. Still, I trust the process. With each gradient, light, shadow, detail, reflection etc slowly but surely emerges something that doesn't look so bad anymore. At the end I apply some Photoshop magic (bottom left and right) and usually I'm pretty happy about the result and that sinking feeling is gone.
Until about month later when I go back to it and think "Gosh, it sucks".
The last picture is my version of this commission. The client asked to tone down lighting, so the final version is less sunny.
