Strongest in DxD - Chapter 41
Added 2021-10-13 14:47:08 +0000 UTCRen's house was right in the center of Kuoh city so it was pretty easy to access any area of the city, even moving at human speed.
Walking calmly through the city were Ren and Scathach, who was wearing his new outfit.
Both drew attention wherever they went, mainly due to Scathach's beauty that was amazing even by supernatural standards.
Speaking of supernatural, Ren hadn't contacted Grayfia and Venelana since the Underworld attack, but the Sekiryuutei knew they were both gathering information for him.
SlashDog made a mental note to visit the two when he had a chance to introduce them to his servants.
All Ren didn't need was to come home and find them killed by servants who didn't know of their existence.
Ren quickly snapped his fingers as his magical power surged and every human in the air was engulfed in an illusion that Ren wasn't in the mood for so much attention.
Looking slightly at Scathach the handler of [True Longinus] can't help but wonder why she volunteered.
"What happened, master?" asked Scathach as he noted the state of his master.
Ren let out a laugh: "Nothing. I'm just surprised you decided to accompany me"
The Immortal Witch smiled cheekily: "What is it? Does my presence bother you?"
"No, not at all, I was just surprised that you decided to accompany me, your presence is always welcome," Ren said calmly.
The burgundy-haired woman smiled: "I see, few would say they like the presence of a bloodstained woman," Scathach said calmly.
Scathach knew that generally people were very afraid of her, especially those who knew her, even his disciples like Cu Chulainn were afraid of her.
Not her master though, he looked pretty normal, like she was an old friend.
"Really? Well, it would be hypocritical of me to do that since I'm not an innocent person or 'clean' so to speak. But I believe you killed a lot more than me and lived a lot more with your immortal life," said Ren laughing.
The Immortal Witch can't help but laugh and agree.
"Yes. In fact, I stole a lot of lives. A man. A ghost. A God." Scathach began to speak slowly with a melancholy sound.
"I have faced many lifetimes of countless numbers, slaughtering all those close to me.
"Fight. Fight. Fight. Kill, kill, kill, kill. In the end, this body was wet with the blood of many victims and became immortal. The territory under my domain, the "Shadow Land", was finally forced out to the Outside of the World, and I was eventually promoted to an existence not unlike that of a Divine Spirit. I will not grow old. I will not die. I changed to 'that' which is immortal. Of course, I can no longer remember exactly how much time has passed since I first took a spear in my hands. It's different from something good. I, who have been on the haunted ground and guarded the "gate", have already acquired the wisdom of the abyss, so I can measure the exact time. However, I just don't feel like doing it. It's different from melancholy. It's also different from resignation"
Ren calmly listened to everything his servant had to say as he noted the deep sadness the woman kept in her words.
"You regret?" Ren asked as they both walked.
"To repent? No. I can say that, but I can't say it. At least during the interval when I slaughtered many things, there is certainly something that exists within me present, something that did not exist in my feelings at the time I was carrying my teachings to the brave warriors of Ulster," said Scathach.
Ren chuckled lightly as he noted the happiness in Scathach's tone when he mentioned his students.
"You trained a lot of heroes, didn't you?" asked Ren laughing lightly.
"Oh, it's true. Guiding the many brave warriors considerably," said the Immortal Witch smiling.
"Everything should have faded away at the end of the many months and years that have passed, but in the midst of my memories it preserves itself in a condition that is intentionally kept obscure, a person... There is only one person, a man with his figure clearly displayed to me so far...
"Red eyes...
"Your pair of his eyes. Just when that glow passes through my mind, what's inside that chest calms down. The heat dwells within me, which is immutable for eternity" 1
"Do you want to see him again?" Ren asked knowing who she was talking about.
Her best student and favorite disciple; Cu Chulainn the Shield of Ulster.
"Wishing for a reunion?" she pondered.
"That's not how it is. This I can say. If so, what is it? To say firmly, like that, to that man...
"I want him to kill," Scathach said making Ren look surprised.
"I want death as a person. Of course, if that man who has now become a 'Heroic Spirit' talks about having the strength to kill this person who is an existence that has already faded with the glow of life and slaughtered even gods, then... "
Ren looked for a moment to be slayer of Gods.
"So is this what you want? To die?" Ren asked.
Ren looked up at the sky along with Scathach as she heard this.
Even though he wasn't immortal like her, and didn't live a long life, Ren wouldn't want that.
He had already gone through the feeling of dying and it wasn't particularly pleasant.
And not only that, Ren really didn't want to see the woman die, Ren has seen so many people close to him die that he has come to highly value the few that are left and Scathach has become one of them.
To his disappointment, Scáthach just shook his head: "That's right; I've lived a long time master. Much longer than I wanted, I'm ready for death."
"But that feels…wrong. Wanting to give up your life like that," Ren argued, making the witch smile sadly at him.
"When death is meaningless, is life really satisfying?" replied Scáthach as he turned to look at the sky.
"But what about all the experiences you'll never have? The possible events that await you in the future?" shoot back at the teenager, making Scáthach sigh.
"Ren," Scathach said, calling him by name: "I appreciate what you're doing, but I can say now that there's nothing I haven't already experienced waiting for me in this world. No adventures, no thrills, no beauty, none change, just the same old thing repeating itself over and over in an endless cycle," she replied wistfully.
"Do you really believe that Scáthach?" Ren asked as he looked at her with a familiar expression, bringing memories to the forefront of the witch's mind.
