⭐️ Patreon News ⭐️

This is about the two higher tiers that have access sketches and WIP posts. I left this paragraph in so you guys can read what's up in my head too but I understand in case this sounds a bit confusing to you.

This is still just an idea. As soon as I’m going through with it, I’ll make an extra post about it but because the new year is approaching, it’s kind of a good moment to look at it up close and maybe make those changes when there’s a fresh start soon anyway! I haven’t changed anything about my Patreon for 3 whole years haha! The last change was when I introduced the mini print tier. But there’s something about how I have set up my system here that’s been bothering me for a while now and I’d like to make changes so things work better for myself and I can eventually even offer you more art…? I’m a very slow artist, as you know, who depends a lot on references. I make these references myself in my little 3D program which takes a lot of time, if not the most time of the entire artwork. This also applies to sketches. I’m not someone who sits down and “just draws” - due to a lack of a visual imagination(meaning I can’t see pictures in my head that I can “transfer” to my canvas), I have references for every single drawing. So my sketchbook spreads ALSO take super long to make. The effort and time they take is close to another fully rendered artwork every month. You might say “but Lilpy, that’s probably because they’re often cleaned up to a point where they’d pass as lineart!” or “yeah, they often count as mini comics, maybe stop having several pages that make up panels then” and you’d have a point! But I can’t really do anything about that right now. They’re clean because my rougher sketches really aren’t pleasing to the eye, not even in a quirky artistic way(I enjoy looking at sketches too so I know what I’m talking about, I’m not trying to fish 🤣) because I’ve gotten so stiff over time. That’s a big downside to sticking to references so much - you end up not being able to draw without them and the art loses rhythm if you’re not careful. And my sketches often fit a theme or make up a little story because these drawings are kind of my only opportunity to tell stories right now. Fully-finished comics take too much time.

You’re probably wondering why I’m telling you all this lmao I’m Not planning to retire the sketchbook spreads or sketchbook posts in general. What bothers me the most about all this is that the effort is basically the same as for a fully-rendered artwork(which is something I can share with the public internet) but I cannot share these sketches anywhere but here because I’ve made it a rule and a perk for you guys, that they’re fully exclusive to Patreon. And at the same time I’m not using my sketch time for what it was originally for: loosening up, drawing with low pressure, doing studies or just silly things. Feeling good and Not stressed, that’s what sketches should do to your little artist brain.

The change I’d like to make is this: I’d like to allow myself to take one drawing out of a sketchbook spread and share it on social media.

This would grant me an additional public post a month AND I’d get to share a part of my little stories or HCs with the wider fandom. That alone would take a lot of pressure off my shoulders when it comes to sketches in general. Because right now everything that goes on social media has to be finished and clean. Knowing that I sometimes get to share a sketch as well would mean I can loosen up with my art as a whole. At this point you can probably tell that most of my Sketchbook Issues™️ are mindset-related. I’m aware, I’ve tried to deal but with the way things are right now I can’t. But I remembered this Patreon page is my place so I make the rules which means I can just change things to help my mindset work better🤣 But I have a hard time doing that too. I want you all to get what you pay for, which as of right now means that you get exclusive content(on top of the smut) → the sketches. You would still get this exclusive content but for the first few months at least, a little less of it(the amount of art will be the same, I’d just get to pick one sketch out of the bunch you’ll see here and share it with the public as well). My hope for all this is that because I’ll loosen up, I’ll get a bit faster and eventually I’d be able to make more sketches in a session. I’d want to pick up studies again and would want to share those with you too.

I think that was the most complicated way of explaining all this to you guys but for the ones who did read all of it, I’d genuinely love to hear your thoughts. Do you get what I’m trying to tell you? Or do you think I should suck it up 😂 Do you think it would be unfair to you or do you trust me enough that you’d still feel like you’re getting your money’s worth?

I am doing my best to get them all sent out by tomorrow or the day after. • sketchbook spread(Star Gazer tier and up): I had promised my Discord folks a super cute spread with Aziraphale, who’s caught the flu and gets taken care of by Crowley but I got thwarted by last month’s Etsy/Ko-fi issues 😢 I wanna do that spread this month and if I get stuff done quickly, I’d love to do a second one with a firefighter/delivery service AU. But we’ll see how that goes.
