Sanding and Preparing 3D Printed Eyeblanks + Materials

We use this filament to print our eyeblanks with mixed results due to our incompetency with a 3d printer. We are looking to move to the polisher method but for now were sticking with the classic sanding and painting method.

1. Start by sanding the prints with 80 grit sandpaper. Get most of the big things out but dont stress about it being perfect.

2. Then we use a all in one primer + paint. This is what we use because its available at walmart but Im sure there are other alternatives. I like this brand because it comes in a lot of colors including a really lovely yellow thats great for more edgy designs haha. Let it dry overnight if you can.

3. Then youre going to hit it with lower grits of sand paper, working your way to a 240 grit sand paper. For best results use something between 80 and 240 before going in with the 240. But I often just work real hard with the 240.

4. Use the paint + primer again. Do 1 even coat every 30 minutes. Make sure to do this outside or with a respirator. Dont overcoat it or get it blobby. If you do mess up DONT PANIC wipe it down with a paper towel while wet and then repeat step 3 (sand it down again!)

5. Finally when theyre looking good and youre happy. Seal them with any kind of sealer. I am cheap and baby so I use this.

Note: I dont recommend doing a gloss spray. This can look really cool in person, however on the con floor/in photos it can often catch the light weird. I stopped doing this because it bothered me once I noticed it.

6. Let cure 24 hours and then youre ready to put the eyballs in!
