so when people talk about comparing Memphis, SMW, Portland etc to what you see now a days, isn't there something to be said for that was a territory with local TV, if that. Whereas WWE, TNA, WCW, and AEW are supposed to be this next level, uber professional, cream of the crop in terms of story, booking, and work? Where like in SMW or Watts in Mid South, they were more like ECW, booking for a niche audience that bought certain stuff that makes the rest of the country roll their eyes

Also, I love Mike’s perspective as someone who doesn’t like the in-ring aspect of wrestling as much as the rest of us. (Comic book storytelling is cyclic and boring af though, with no permanent growth or change. [just had to throw that pipe bomb in there, to be “evenhanded” 😏])

Robert articulated well why this podcast gets cringey whenever AEW comes up. Because you feel the need to be “even handed”, you look for any little thing to pick at, and then blow it up to make it seem like a major flaw. Often on the same episodes where WWE is guilty of the most atrocious affronts to storytelling, but you can’t talk about those because then it’ll look like you have an AEW bias, like Meltzer or Wrestletalk. I remember for a little over a month you guys talking about that Aaliyah and Buddy Murphy storyline, and looking for the best in it... and then they just dropped it and none of you noticed. That’s how you know you’re trying to be too nice. It’s not a bias. It’s just that AEW is a much better product. You’re not the news, you don’t have to pretend both sides are equivalent lol.
