Extended Writing Update
Added 2025-01-26 23:03:35 +0000 UTCThis week saw me mostly tearing my hair out in both annoyance and, in a way, pride? I guess? 😂 I completely cut the prologue. I'm going to rewrite it eventually, but the plot point it introduces doesn't work this early. Welcome to my writing process, in which I regularly realize I've tried to pack too much plot into one chapter! This part was a lot less visible in book one's writing because I spent about six months writing and rewriting the first three chapters before I released the demo.
So there's the frustration aspect. But I'm also quite happy with myself for not being afraid to cut something when it's not working. I've always had that attitude, but I worried that I might be too nervous to do it, now that it's a more public process. I worry about disappointing people or dragging them along in that frustration with me - but in the end, it's better to admit when something isn't working. And from my experience you guys are great, so I have the luxury of hoping that my desire to make the game as good as it can be will be understood <3
Anyway, cutting the prologue and its implications (for now) makes way for the plot point I've introduced in the new scene I mentioned last week. Things feel like they're a step closer to a flow I'll be happy with. I have a feeling I'll be tweaking a few more things eventually, but for January I want to just focus on this new scene and fixing up the council interaction. I'm trying to get some of chapter 2 in there as well but at this point I'm unsure. Not to go into it too much, but I've had so many health issues this month T_T I'll do my best for you guys, I promise!
Here's this week's preview ~

"Practice makes perfect," they hum, tapping their fork against their plate so lightly it makes no sound despite the speed it moves at. Not for the first time, I wonder how someone with the dexterity of a rogue wound up favoring magic in a fight.
