I'm not sure if any of the Bards are into anime, but I immediately associated the artwork with the groundbreaking 1995 anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion and it's feature lenght finale The End of Evangelion. In my opinion the character on the album cover strongly resembles the Eva's featured in the series, especialy the Eva (Mass Production) Series. This connection is furthermore strenghtend by the Lance of Longinus featured in both the artwork and in the Neon Genesis Evangelion series. The white-red colour palette is also a stong similarity.
