Clarification

I'll be making something this weekend but just to clarify:

$2 tier will be for plot updates via low-level Twine

$7 tier will be for VIDEOS of the VR experiences (as in, I'll be recording POV videos while virtually fucking myself in VR with parasites, as well as hopefully animating NPC's etc.)  I'll be making the videos private, because it was mentioned that VRchat frowns upon this behavior and I don't really blame them, so holding them out of public circulation is probably for the best.

$20 tier will be for VR assets which can be downloaded for anyone w/ VR

Which is why I made the wall of text. I hope it was direct and open enough for Anon to rethink Parasite infections development. I do not believe it is good to threaten to move away, or to be openly hostile when something changes you do not agree with. Not saying that I'm sticking around if the VR path on, but I'm living in the hope Anon Smith will rather make another game with VR as main focus and leave Parasite Infection out of it.

If you want other games to get your fix of freaky stuff, Redamz is making Monster Girl Island, and DerelictHelmsman is making Breeders of the Nephelym. The latter doesn't have sound and the former is for lack of a better term "inconsistent" in their updates/releases

RatMan

Two Words: Feature Creep. Seriously, I dont have VR so I'm not interested and the continual delays is getting kind of irksome.

Merki

They've already lost over $50 a month just from when the announcement started. With all the people promising to bow out after part 3 is finished it's going to hurt a lot more. Especially since they already claimed they need a team. Saying they need to be able to hire people (aka, need more subscribers) followed by a loss in subs should be a pretty good indicator that this wasn't a smart move.

Another point that I left out from yesterday was the fact that you initially started this patreon under the premise of creating Parasite Infection as a twine interactive game. If you suddenly jump in and change the focus from twine to another platform like VR then you're basically taking what we initially pledged for and using it on something else. Its not a sound business strategy in any case because it raises doubts not to mention you're switching out what the final product is going to end up being. If you want to do a VR game you could do a separate game in VR. But don't just scrap what you started. People have already been burned plenty of times on Patreon by projects that start and then suddenly come crashing to a close. You don't want to gain a reputation of starting one project that draws in people and then switching to something else midway after patrons have pledged for a while. That's just my thoughts on this.

Anon Smith, please allow me to say this in the most direct way possible. If you want to make a VR game, then do that. But do not change this game to make that VR game. I can guarentee you that everyone here that have been your patreons for a long time, isn't here for VR, we are here for this interactive game. It is this game that got our attention, and it is this game that will keep giving you attention and money. While I do feel that part 3 were barebones in comparison to part 1 and part 2, I was hoping for part 3 getting fleshed out as an interactive game, staying true to what has already been done. I will say this again, while you are free to make whatever game, novel or VR vidoes you want and can, there are consquenses in suddenly going away from what brought the patreons over here. And as you have seen, a lot of patreons have said they are not intrested in a VR, both because the VR gear is expensive, clunky and not mainstream yet. Take my advice on this. Finish Parasite Infection as an interactive game, and once it is done, then you can change focus to VR or whatever you feel would be a great new adventure for you. But the moment you go VR mode on this game, I fear many will leave and you will not be able to make what you want to make. I say it again, you are free to do whatever you want, but people here have spoken, they do not want VR just yet. Personally, I want this game to stay interactive as it was when I found it, VR is at best, just a fad right now, and I have no intrest in getting VR gear or play any VR games at all. And I loved to play Super Hot VR. Hope this wall of text will be read by you and we all can get a conclusion to what you, Anon Smith, will do.

To echo others, I am not at all happy with the direction you have decided to go. You are obviously not obligated to create things you don't want to, and more power to you if you are passionate about developing content for VR for whatever reason, but a lot of people will be voting with their wallets. I've already lowered my tier and will drop off completely once part 3 is released.

StarcraftJunkie

I think my feelings echo everyone else's. will stick around for the final version of part 3, and then drop off. no interest in a VR thing or a twine novel.

Clockwork Saurus

This decision...Not fond of it. even just using the VR to make video clips for the game will likely make me drop this. Even well built 3D models usually give me the impression of a fleshlight and a dildo being stuck together.

Kyramasu

Perhaps some video via sfm or other animation system . And Vr just for a little werm sandox labroom with mirror . But don't go there , i will miss your writing ^^

Mr Allaria

Still doing VR, even though there's only been nothing but feedback against this idea? Sounds like it's time to stop funding this project.

Yeah that's way to expensive monthly for me to continue monthly for some shoddy VR videos. after this month I'm jumping ship as well.

CthulhusDream

Sounds like it's time to jump ship, everyone who can't afford VR.

RatMan

So basically you're still doing the same thing you announced and turning the twine game into a novel. Aren't you in the least bit concerned about burning the people you originally gathered to this game by changing its focus and medium to a completely different platform? If this is the absolute direction you're going and this game is no longer going to be a game then I am pulling out now. I don't want VR and I don't want a novel. It was fun because it was an interactive tf game so far. But it won't be in the least bit interesting if it turns into a non-interactive novel because you want to push the current Gen VR which really isn't true VR. I can't even use it without causing crippling migraines. Its because the focal point coincides with your natural optic focus for depth perception that it causes problems in a percentage of users. Thanks, but no thanks for current Gen VR. Besides its really friggin expensive to buy a unit. I hope you take the protest of your supporters seriously and reconsider your current plan. Otherwise you're just going to have to make do with whatever remains.

lightningshifter

As I'm doubtful that the Twine updates will be coming, this might be the end of the line. It's been fun and best of luck to everyone.

does that mean a cutback on game updates?

Fuchsi

so still vr focused huh well that sucks

Gizmo

It's actually probably worse. It means that those who would actually want a vr game aren't even getting that. So the announcement was that we're leaving a twine GAME with beautiful 2d art and getting a twine 'novel' instead without any accompanying art unless we pay 7$ a month (really half a wow sub?) and even that is going to be generic 3d slop art in first person videos. As someone who spent 2 years testing VR applications, including a need to often record what I'm doing for bug reporting, let me be frank. It's impossible to properly record VR for a 2d frame. Everyone makes minor adjustments to their head that they don't notice but become really obvious when it's recorded and can disorient the viewer pretty badly. Not to mention seeing the parasites act from angles you can't view yourself is half the fun. Is Chet/Chloe only going to ever have sex in a mirror room?

Troqu

honestly im not much of a fan of the look this VR stuff has i would rather stick with the drawn CGs

ZeashSkirata

it doesn't change much tbh, if your focus will still be VR it means we'll be getting even less frequent updates of what we actually wanted when we started supporting this.
