In a TV forum I belong to,someone made the exact same comment;and it is.of course, absolutely true, However,I made the following observation: "I interpreted it as not really mattering much what the onlookers thought, as the Second Captain Jack was about to hurtle off to the future;and the First was destined to die the next day (and the Second knew that, and could therefore show him the necessary affection)." Does this make a difference...?

It’s a fantasy, a show so some suspension of disbelief is required. But if it was that easy for gays to accept themselves we wouldn’t still have problems today. People were sent to prison for being gay in the UK until 1967 so I don’t think much self acceptance was happening because the law was telling people they were criminals

Yes gay people existed but they wouldn’t have danced or kissed in public

I don’t think it was that impossible to think it would happen. There were definitely gay people back in those days, but they just never said anything publicly. It took the whole episode for him to finally have the confidence to stand up against oppression and discrimination to have a dance with a man. I’m not too knowledgeable on history and a lot of our history isn’t 100% clear, so I think it could’ve happened.
