Is it an example of the Dunning Kruger effect when Evan counseled for the importance of hiring an accountant for financial services (an area in which he has expertise), but in the same breath, recommended using online services for estate planning? Without expertise in the law among the panel, they seemed to fully fail to appreciate the complexity of the law, and myriad of ways that these online services can fail to meet a person’s estate planning needs. Estate planning is an area of law where strict adherence to the legal formalities is most important. The idea is that ensuring the detailed statutory requirements are meticulously met impresses on the will maker the gravity of the process and ensures dispositive intent. An attorney not only helps navigate the requirements, but is also accountable for any errors. Their malpractice insurance is there to make the client whole. Online services offer no accountability; if you write your will online, and it turns out to be invalid, you are intestate and out of luck. Another danger of these sites is, while a person is allowed to draft their own legal documents, only a licensed attorney may daft legal documents for someone else. So you go online and write a Power of Attorney for your mom, or wills for you and your spouse, and you just committed the crime of practicing law without a license. The saying goes that a person who represents themself has a fool for a client. That includes handling their own estate planning. Please do not discount the expertise of attorneys in managing legal affairs.

I don't have a problem separating the art from the artist ... until they cross certain lines. I grew up with Cosby, I no longer listen to his routines. I used to struggle with this until I resolved it when I realized that there are thousands of other comedians I can go to. I don't need Cosby. I don't need Roman Polanski. My life is not lacking without them. After watching an ITV (UK) investigative report on Michael Jackson, I have some serious doubts about the accusations. Jackson was certainly creepy and a jerk (Corey Feldman talked about being dropped by Jackson as a friend when he got to be too old).

Ah! That's probably why it seemed familiar. I was there for that. Well... virtually. :) Surprised that they didn't add a message to explain it as a filler piece though. It really felt like an unintentional repost.

It was part of the live stream 2 parter they did for patrons back in Dec. You could have watched/listened live then, this is the first time it's been on the public feed, because they are at Dragon on this weekend.

Did Jay disappear before Science or Fiction?

"Today is Saturday, December 17th, 2022" /me checks watch Am I stuck in a time loop or is this an intentional repost? Scrolling back here, I'm not finding this episode either. But the stories all sound familiar. Pretty sure Geo covered P22 at the time on his podcast too, so it may be that.

Beautiful thumbnail. FYI just southwest of Tucson is Saguaro National Park. A forest of tall old giant saguaro. The species is also endemic to northern Mexico, just below the Arizona border. (Sonoran desert.)
