Denying that denialism exists. lol Love it! Just as the internet is able to bring together diverse skeptics across the globe (or disk for flat earthers and Terry Pratchett fans), it brought together the deniers. People who want to cause problems share and adapt tactics, and ignorant celebrities use it to stay in the limelight. The public is caught in the middle, attracted to celebrity and not many scientists are good at communication. And, as you know, the media is awful at science communication. If it's not sensational enough, venturing into science fiction is not out of bounds.

2023-05-19 09:56:14 +0000 UTCIn the "good old days," the denialist community, and crackpots in general were relegated to mimeographed pamphlets, public access cable at 2:00 am, and maybe the occasional catch-all luancy convention out in the desert. But the internet and social has done wonders for the fellowship. The fact that websites, blogs, and videos add a sheen of apparent legitimacy (since they share space with legitimate sources of knowledge) provides these groups with kind of false confidence allowing them to feel like they are somehow a part of movement.
