Black Mirror's San Junipero

We discuss the philosophy of this episode. Does life have meaning? What if your reality was simulated? What if you were simulated?

For another take on this, read After the Galaxy: The Unsung by Scott Bartlett. The book exists in both the computer generated world and "real life" They seem to do a good job of making both worlds important.

Evolyn, be aware that it’s a very dark series. San Jumipero was recommended to me as an exception to the rule. But if you don’t mind dark, enjoy!

Isn't there still the problem with continuity like there is with the Star Trek transporter?

I thank you guys so much for turning me onto this show years ago.

I've never seen Black Mirror and now I'm thinking it's a good time to start! Thank you for the video.

Surely the virtual reality would naturally evolve with technological progress? There's no reason to assume creativity and variety would stagnate. And wouldn't you eventually forget you were dead?

The question about seeking meaning in San Junipero reminded me of a short story in a Greg Egan collection, in which a whole world or society is now virtual—digitized minds. And an explanation that one might give a sweetheart the gift of a mathematical theorem. “An original one?” “If you’re serious.” (paraphrased, etc.)

This was great! I really enjoy Black Mirror and would absolutely upload with the ability to opt out. There’s so much to learn and so many decades to explore!
