Revisiting after all the Brian Thompson discourse and the manhunt that’s going on right now for his murderer. I immediately thought about John talking about how these single-acting individuals have extremely personal and complicated motives + an act like this is motivated greatly by the fame and notoriety. What’s even more troubling to me is how callous people are being about the murder due to Brian’s profession. People are calling the shooter a “hero” and they’re saying basically what a “man” the shooter is for what he did. For all I know, Brian could’ve been a terrible guy that took advantage of everyone to make it to the top. But in no way is cold-blooded murder ever the right solution or answer. But social media is giving absolutely everything the shooter wanted: fame, notoriety, being called a genius; even so far as to ask him to target another CEO while he’s at it. This society lacks empathy and it’s extremely concerning. But this is why I’m a gem because 1. I really also want to become a forensic psychologist, (victim of a lot of past trauma I want to understand LOL), but 2. we all need to be reminded of what’s hidden beneath the hurt and Lauren and John always do it so beautifully. You guys both inspire me daily! Thank you!!!

This is a stressful time for many because there are very few people bringing this awareness to the forefront. Most people are fed the politics the clickbait and just get used to seeing things that way. Due to that no one feels secure in what the answer is to these issues like what happened. If people can’t understand why they can’t even begin to feel secure and problem solve it. Nothing gets solved and people live that stress. By you bringing this up you have stood up for honesty and balance. For that I’m thankful. Even I began to get stressed. Listening to your video on this lifted so much of that for me because it was literally a balanced conversation about truth. Mental health and parenting needs to become quality and accessible to the people in this country. We have a crisis in this area and until that’s addressed it will continue. I feel the fight for truth is very difficult in fixing this. I tend to feel that some may not want mental health addressed as it can potentially be a benefit to some who profit off of the crisis . I may be wrong about that. I just want to thank you for talking about it. Truly.

He has a speech disorder and has been in speech therapy since 18m old and it is still very present. He is a sweet and sensitive soul, an empath. I have witnessed one of his schoolmates being really mean to him already on the playground on 1 occasion. He already is showing signs of depression and anxiety and is not resilient at all at this point in his development. I am working everyday on resiliency and developing grit. One question I have is how does a parent deal with their own child if they are bullies? If your child is being bullied by a specific child or group of children what is the best way to address this has a parent? Do you approach the parents? I know if I was a parent of a bully I would be horrified.

Dr John’s final comments were nothing short of profound. IMO Patreon stream got a bit political for a while. Dr John did attempt to steer away from it. But to be honest that did disappoint me. I feel both sides have said and done some pretty awful things to each other (bullying). To point out how one political side was a “bully” while not also acknowledging that the other side was a bully too is unfortunate. Politics has become one side attacking the other... It’s soul crushing. Perhaps that is the reason Timothy hated politicians - not any one in particular... ALL politicians. They all represent bullies to him (and to be honest I absolutely get it). I thought the discussion would stay “above” pointing figures at the victim. The point that it could have been any of a number of people he chose as a target was important.

Let's also add on top of this age groups pressure that they had to live through COVID isolation and these ridiculous lockdown drills several times a year. Their high school was needlessly high pressure. They don't take care of bullying situations, and my son was even suspended when his bully started pushing and hitting him, and he defended himself. The teacher let the bully harass him right before with no help. Even though the bully was well known to kids and parents, the principals acted like the bully was ok,and he had severe emotional problems and a mother that abused him in public. Schools are not welcoming places, and many teachers are not considering what their attitudes are doing to the children. Also, Crooks dad may have also had an attitude towards authority with all those guns.

The first and only thing that helped me was deciding that I wasn’t going to continue on (what you called) the treadmill, and instead I was going to live by my own map and ideas about what was right and wrong. My husband completely supported this (always has) and in fact was the person who said I should give some serious thought to what I wanted for the next 10 or 20 years, and not factor in whatever anyone else wanted from me. It’s surprisingly hard to explain, but I think the people who are here will understand.

From what I can gather this was a troubled young man and the target of the shooting was not particularly consequential in terms of his pathology. As a mother of both boys and girls, it seems to me like we could do more for the mental health of our young men. I am so interested in Dr John’s thoughts on what drives a person to do this and what warning signs we should look for in addition to how best intervene. Isn’t that why we all are drawn to these incredible discussions? I, for one, didn’t think I’d be interested in Alec Baldwin, but darn was I proven wrong!

You have 2 people who are running for office and each one thinks that they can do what is right for the country. In this attempt, we had injuries, and an innocent man lost his life. There is no excuse for this. Both candidates strongly agreed that this was wrong. You may not like Trump and you may not like Biden/Harris. Either way the candidates do not deserve to dodge bullets. This kid was just into his 20's he has been bombarded by hate and lies for a good portion of his teen years. It does not give him the right to take a life. As I said we are better than this. The mainstream media is not helpful. I have never seen so much hate for people. We used to be kinder, we used to be proud. I want that country back
