This will premiere tomorrow night for the public, but here it is early for our supporters. Chad Daybell's former neighbor is ready to talk. The crimes that happened in her quiet Idaho town haunt her over two years later, along with the secrets in Fremont County.  Bernadine tells Lauren what she saw, and why she believes Chad Daybell has more victims.

Bernadine also mentions her daughter's Instagram account:  https://www.instagram.com/becauseofwhathappened/

Also: National Domestic Violence Hotline: 800-799-7233 Or text START to 88788

If you can, we'd still love you to join us tomorrow for the public premiere and chat: https://youtu.be/ciSDWUDl-xM

Someone else had earlier the same question we have, and it seems the creator has to report this herself. Here's the earlier Q&A that I found https://support.google.com/youtube/thread/23327986?hl=en I am so sorry Lauren that this happened!

Kiira Jaakkola

I found this page: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/76187?hl=en "Fix a hacked YouTube Account"

Kiira Jaakkola

I went to "Feedback" and sent an email. I'm looking for additional ways to report this.

Kiira Jaakkola

How did you report this? I’d like to do the same. Lauren’s worked too hard on this channel for some sleazy hacker to take it all away

Flow

Coming back to say that the hacker has deleted all of your videos

Flow

I was wondering this also....

Sarah Fauth

I sent a report of this to YouTube hoping they'll look into this ASAP.

Kiira Jaakkola

Flow just said the same thing.

Kiira Jaakkola

What did just happen to Hidden True Crime YT channel? Was it hijacked?

Kiira Jaakkola

Hey I think someone has hacked your youtube? It comes up as ‘Micro Strategy 2022’. I’m worried that the hacker will start deleting old videos of yours

I am listening to a series of interviews on John Dehlin’s Mormon Stories with Lynn Packer, a well known investigative reporter and member of the Church. Packer was a nephew of a Church leader named Boyd Packer who in the fifties was instrumental in changing the direction of the the Church’s education system from having an emphasis on science and critical thinking to an emphasis on faith testimony and personal revelation. In the 70’s, Packer, who was then covering the suicide of a false prophet and the subsequent actions of his wife (she threw or coaxed their seven children off the 11th story of a building and then jumped to her own death) wrote a memo to his uncle warning him of the very real and disturbing dangers of this approach, writing, “Some may believe that a few persons receiving false visions is the price which must be paid in order that all have the opportunity to communicate with the heavens. The quest for personal revelation, however, can hurt more than the erratic fringe. A Mormon without testimony is a second class Mormon.” I am a never Mo, so these interviews were enlightening into what could create the Vallow-Daybell horror show. The 6 part series is called the Dark Side of Mormonism and the particular episode I quoted is #1362.

I wonder what the FBI thinks about that Eldin scenario? It really does seem incredibly suspicious. It would follow from Bernadine's characterization that he would have snooped in Chad's shed, where he surely would have seen evidence of the crime. Pulmonary embolism seems to be a pattern that truly is too coincidental to not investigate. HTC-please continue to pressure the authorities-great job!

Jennifer Priebe

eek!

Kirton McConkie, the church’s big law firm, requires bishops to call them first, and not law enforcement. Kurton McConkie said during a pretrial deposition that the firm uses the information from helpline calls to identify cases that might pose a financial risk to the church if they resulted in lawsuits. They have been advising bishops to keep crimes unreported when the state laws do not force one to report. Very much has been systematically sweeping cases under the rug for years every time they can legally get away with it. (Depending on state laws.)

I am just listening to your podcasts in order and came upon the heartbreaking news of Dr. John's tumors. Is there any good news on this front? I'm so worried. Sending prayers and meditations of health (Buddhist, here). Hoping for the best.

So enlightening. Really shed light on abuse that is hidden in Rexburg. I would love a Patreon on Pam Hupp!

Valerie

This was such a great interview!

Susanne Pappan

*vicious not vivacious…no loin fire reference intended!!😆

RobynB

Wow! That is one interesting interview. Im very much of the live and let live mentality but I will say to anyone reading this who is involved with this offshoot LDS group. Stop. They are playing on your fear and no amount of “prep” will alleviate that angst…if anything, you are feeding it. This does not make you bad people…to the contrary. Please get help so you can get off this vivacious cycle where people like Chad Daybell, Lori Vallow, Eric Smith, JR and others take advantage of you. Find new influences but however you do it…STOP. This is not healthy…

RobynB

I think it's an Eastern Idaho thing, my family is from an area of Eastern Idaho, that is not very LDS and I've heard stories of things being swept under the rug in those places. I think it comes from living so insularly, and not wanting other people or government in "their" business.

Amber Ferdig

I really appreciate Bernadine’s insight into the Rexburg culture! However, I think it’s important to recognize that the LDS church’s current teaching that people who are born with special needs were more valiant in the pre-existence, is a shift. Their teachings on this subject haven’t always been so kind. This is a quote by the LDS prophet Harold B. Lee - “The privilege of obtaining a mortal body on this earth is seemingly so priceless that those in the spirit world, even though unfaithful or not valiant, were undoubtedly permitted to take mortal bodies although under penalty of racial or physical or nationalistic limitations.” And because the LDS church tends to NOT recant hateful and harmful teachings (they just hope people will eventually forget them), I’ve noticed that people like Lori and Chad who are well versed in LDS church history and LDS scriptures, tend to prefer the older, harsher, more hateful and harmful teachings of the church. Especially when they can use those teachings to justify their own awful actions.

I’m a little confused.. I thought one of the kids was by the fire pit and the other next to a pond

Pauline krebs

Might be a good thing the jury will be from Ada county.

Heather Carter

What an intelligent and centered - and well-read - person. She needs to be on this channel again. Or start her own. I'd listen to her.

LauraK

This interview was fantastic!! I was agog to hear that Chad actually requested that a neighbor take out a second mortgage on his/her house to put up money to get Lori out of jail!! As Fruit Loop says on Pretty Lies & Alibis, what the world???

Krista Steiger

You can’t make these things up. This has the makings of one heck of a movie!

CuriousinColorado

This was such an interesting and thought provoking interview with such a fascinating woman!

Rachel Weideman

Go Bernadine!!! So glad you pointed out how the Daybell group borrowed from other groups and twisted it.

Diane Renee Macdonell

This was so insightful. I feel like I learned a lot more about the community. Thank you!!

Alyssa Bravo

Ah! Can’t wait to watch this in a bit. It was interesting reading her comments in TCU from a while back ☺️

Edie Miller

I think y’all were laughing about the Missouri coincidences. 😁

Katie Marlowe

Wow. It’s no wonder that Chad and Lori had no fear of getting caught with so many atrocious incidents being swept under the rug. Thank you, Bernadine, for having such an inquisitive mind, and sharing your insights with us!

Katie Marlowe

I love Bernadine! Rexburg needs to understand that you are only as sick as the secrets you keep. It sounds like there’s a real infection in that town that needs to be exposed. I could listen to Bernadine for hours.

Tamara Wakeman Sukohl

All I can say is fascinating!!!!! and thank you for enlightening us all!!! 🤦‍♀️🙏🏻

Julie Wilburn

Great interview and I totally believe that Chad had something to do with Eldon's death.

Toni Quilico-Kriebel

thank you!...wow! I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. And from a family of abuse. (1970_1980) It was reported in ID. not near Rexburg. There was swift action. Nothing was swept under the rug. It isn't Church policy ro do so. But, not all places closely follow Church policy on all small things. This is awful! I admire her courage. There are a lot of nutty creepy people who use the church to hid their horrible evil actions. I could go on and on. But, again, this is NOT the church doctrine. So freaking gross and creepy.

Kim

YouTube chose the cover photo and I'm loving it! Although I'm not sure what we were discussing at that moment. :)
