TRVCY - SOUND DESIGN THOUGHT PROCESS

In this video I go over how to start making sounds, what's the thought process behind building sounds from scratch and then how to transition out of the sound design process into the writing process to be able to work on drops and not get stuck in the 8bar loop forever.

You guys can also download the project if you want!

I think the only third party plugin that I'm using is the Ozone 5 Imager for the splitter, but you guys can probably replace that with multiband dynamics and just solo each respective band, if you need any help setting this up please let me know.

Also VolumeShaper3 for my sidechain and for the volume automation in the sound but it's not really mandatory, you guys can also replace that with ShaperBox as well.

Would love to know what you guys think about this one! Hope you enjoy

I dont think the compressed room will do any harm to the lowend because it's a pretty subtle effect and the sub coming from the sample is pretty clean, also im not filtering it or doing any weird automation so I'm basically getting a really clean sinewave regardless. I guess if you stack multiple reverb or space effects you could definitely have some issues, but I try to avoid that by just splitting these effects into different layers, and maybe if I wanna get more "room" in my sound I can use different effects on my MID or HIGH layer instead of the whole group. And as long as the sub sounds clean at the end you can use it, if for some reason it starts sounding bad you could either double check to make sure that's working or add a separate sub!

Now i watch more haha, moreso those extremely experimental weird glitchy stuff instead of the reese basses, i love the movement and pitch changes they have in them. I cant seem to ever figure them out (39:02)

This was sick man. I definitely get lost sometimes with making music and end up taking forever to figure out what it is i need to do. This process will definitely help me have a plan on how to get myself out of those moments a lot faster! would love to see how you made those really long reese bass files at 13:30 with all the movement for the glitchy sort of samples. I got super inspired by this reel you did awhile back, would love to hear how you make them https://www.instagram.com/p/DFf507YP4pb/

Yooo, happy Tuesday Trvcy! This video was SICK man, thank you so much for sharing. I'm putting everything to use now. I have a question about the compressed room reverb and the sub. Do we have to worry about the sub going into the compressed room reverb for the end result? How do you treat your sub once the idea has come together? or do you just run it and leave it? Thanks again!

matthew keller

also sick that you included the project file. this is super helpful.

really dope video. love that moment at 32:15 when you drop that new sample into the flow and engage bass face when you know you got something. something I'd love to see would be once you have a drop, how would you usually go about adding an intro/ build/ pre drop, and how you'd usually approach those parts of a song. Cheers!
