Dear Patreon #4
Added 2023-06-14 10:37:40 +0000 UTCHello everyone!
Here’s a fresh Patreon newsletter for you, I hope you enjoy it. I’m in a disgustingly good mood this week as I’ve had some tremendous news (read on and you shall see)
Things I have been enjoying lately
Puritan Masochism by Konvent which, I hasten to add, is a song. I haven’t literally been enjoying puritan masochism (although hey, I’m not here to kinkshame). Anyway, all female Danish doom metal! What a treat! Might not be for everyone, but I only stumbled across this track / album recently and I’ve enjoyed having it on in the background while I’ve been working.
Harem Pants. I’ve always struggled with the heat but I also don’t like wearing shorts, so summer has for years been the season of me looking miserable in a pair of black jeans. Enter harem pants! They’re light, they’re flowy, they aren’t shorts. I’m honestly in heaven. Except for the lack of pockets. Everything should come with pockets.
Heat. Heat is a very good board game about car racing, made by the same people who made Flamme Rouge, a very good board game about bike racing. It’s got push your luck elements and strategy abound but it’s also extremely easy to learn. Basically you play cards to determine how far / fast you go on your turn but, if you take corners too fast, it puts strain on your engine. That’s ok as long as you have heat cards to discard from your engine but, if you ever find yourself unable to pay the heat cost, your car spins out. It’s honestly fantastic stuff.

How’s Watson? Oh she is JUST FINE ACTUALLY, THANK YOU! You may remember that she had a lump on the site of an old tumour and that the test results came back inconclusive. A few days after that (cw: blood) she came into the room and I noticed the lump looked very red and a little swollen. It turns out that redness was actually a bead of blood - I gave the lump a little squeeze and out popped some really weird material. It felt plasticky but was also really brittle. I sent some photos to the vet (and popped the stuff in a jar of saline solution) and made an appointment to get them to have a look.
We agreed that the most likely outcome of that appointment was going to be surgery, so I actually came in fully prepared for her to go under general anaesthetic (no breakfast for Watson). showed the vet the stuff in the jar and the photos I’d taken when it had just come out of her leg and it turns out that it was an old suture that hadn’t dissolved after Watson’s last surgery.
Her body basically formed a lump around it and pushed it out, so we’re pretty certain that’s what the lump was. They’ve sampled it again just to make sure and we’re going to get the results back in another week but I am 99% sure that Watson remains cancer free. Hooray!
How’s Blood Bowl? We’ve got a big day coming up this weekend with about half the league meeting up to play some matches. Very exciting.
How’s work? Good thanks! It was very nice to do a painting stream on Monday and I’m looking forward to streaming a game tomorrow. I made a mental note of what game I’d like to play but I’ve completely forgotten so my task between now and then is to remember.
So that’s about all from me - going to go feed Watson a little bit of cheese for being a good brave girl. Catch you soon!

Heya Johnny! Just stopping by to say that I loved your Killer Frequency Stream from the other day. Just finished watching it on VOD <3 That and the first Unpacking are now my top 2 streams you've done to date. Not asking you for more 6h+ streams (though I wouldn't hate it!) but I love watching you get sucked in to the story like that. Best wishes for Watson - hope all comes back clear! xx

2023-06-18 15:11:04 +0000 UTCI immediately think of 80s pop rapper "MC Hammer" when I hear of harem pants (or were they parachute pants?), mostly due to his music video for "U Can't Touch This." Now that I'm playing Prey again, I'm also reminded of his prophetic song "Prey" where he sings: "You've got to Prey just to make it today!"

2023-06-14 15:13:44 +0000 UTCSo excited about the good news for Watson! Also, harem pants are the best summer pants! I will also do straight leg trousers made of linen for work. The fabric can be a no-no texture for some people, but if you’re ok with it, it makes for a wonderful breathable option.

2023-06-14 11:32:09 +0000 UTCEnjoying the newsletters immensely. Also, might I recommend thai fisherman pants? They're typically 3/4 length but if you shop around a good many of them have pockets. A friend of mine manages to pull them off with boots so might be an option ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

2023-06-14 10:51:04 +0000 UTCYay!! Good Watson news is very happy-making! And I agree, these newsletters are great - not so much in them that I don't bother reading and the format always gives me something I want to follow up on like a book for my wishlist or new music.
