Case 336: Tyler Clementi

When 18-year-old Tyler Clementi began his freshman year at Rutgers University in 2010, he was eager to embrace his newfound independence. Before the semester began, Tyler applied for campus housing and was randomly assigned a roommate – another 18-year-old freshman named Dharun Ravi. But within weeks of moving in, their lives would become the focus of news headlines, sparking a national conversation about cyberbullying, LGBTQ+ rights and the devastating consequences of digital humiliation.

This was Premium Episode #37, released in August 2025. It is not new content; it is the same episode, but as Premium episodes are now going to be released on the main feed months after their initial Patreon release, we had to repost it so that all episodes can keep the same numbering on the main feed and the Patreon feed.

Case 336: Tyler Clementi

Comments

I was expecting to see a really handsome, muscular guy when seeing Ravis picture. He's NOTHING like that! To see him Id think he'd be the one to be bullied and made fun of. Not that there ever is a good reason to act that way toward another person but Ravi has no room to think he's any better than anyone else. As this case shows, Tyler was the much better person of the two. Everything I heard on here about Ravi just disgusts me.

You are the only one who feels this way. If you subscribe, you get bonus episodes first.

If bonus episodes are just going to be released as regular episodes why am I paying for bonus content? I've loved Casefile for years but this is kind of ridiculous. Am I the only one who feels this way?

I HATE this one. Well written, but absolutely devastating. Second time I’ve listened and I still hate it just as much. I can relate to being uneducated and previously judgemental about different sexual orientations, but then we were blessed with a gay brother, who made me question everything I previously thought was true. So grateful for him, and so grateful he never had to live through anything close to this invasion. My heart goes out to Tyler and his family, and anyone else that has faced such prejudice
