Case 323: The GPO Girl
Added 2025-07-26 07:30:16 +0000 UTCOn Thursday October 10 2013, passersby noticed a distraught looking teenage girl, crying and shivering outside of Dublin’s General Post Office building. When police officers approached the girl, she either couldn’t, or wouldn’t, talk. The mystery teenager – soon dubbed the GPO girl – was taken into care, and experts suspected that she was a victim of sex trafficking. When attempts to identify the GPO girl failed, Irish investigators went public with the case, not realising they were just dealing with just the tip of the iceberg in a crime spree that spanned continents.

2025-08-12 22:55:17 +0000 UTCI hear some of the criticisms below on this episode. I think some are so outraged that this was allowed to continue that they need to hear some of that outrage. I disagree, there are so many episodes where the voice of victims and their families shine through. I think over indulging in that sort of commentary or forcing it into the storytelling that already brings these cases to the forefront can cause nearly unlistenable podcasts. There are a number of true crime podcasts that don't go 10 minutes without the hosts expressing some sort of disgust. It's the worst thing, because it's predictable, doesn't add to the story and after a while is the reason I leave. There are a number of true crime podcasts that over indulge in the commentary of the crime, even without the hosts doing it, and that still drags out the story. When it fits, tells us more, when it doesn't add anything, say less. My Over-Indulged Opinion: Ira Finn is doing her best job of impersonating the GPO Girl.
