I mentioned that our last episode before the mid-year pause would be released on May 31st, without clarifying that this date related to episodes on the main feed. For Patrons and Premium Subscribers, who get early access to episodes, this meant that the release was one week earlier, on May 24th.
While I tried to make sure our listeners were given adequate warning about the pause in releases, I acknowledge that I should have made it clearer that Patrons and Premium Subscribers would receive the last episode a week before the main feed. I want to make it very clear that this wasn’t a deliberate tactic or an attempt to mislead anyone. Patrons and Premium Subscribers receive two new episodes to kick off the year, and then two more when we return from the mid-year pause. You don’t get less episodes, but are simply on a different release schedule. I should have made that clearer.
To be honest, I’m a little disappointed to see that people have been questioning my integrity or claiming that I’m trying to be deceitful. I’ve been doing this for nearly 10 years now and as I’ve always said, if you’re not happy with your subscription for any reason, please just send us a DM and we’d be happy to arrange a refund for you. I’ve never once knocked back such a request or tried to talk someone out of it. If you’re not happy, we’ll sort it out.
We’ve also had some mixed feedback about Behind the Files — and I can see where that comes from. I understand that this type of content is not for everyone but these episodes were created to give listeners a bit of an extra insight and discussion into what goes on behind the scenes at Casefile and while there’s people who enjoy listening to them, we’ll keep doing it.
Rereleasing older premium episodes as a numbered ep for the main feed listeners is something that has been done for years. It was not some new tactic to try and pass off as a new episode before this current break. As for any complaints about these bonus episodes ending up on the main feed, this was a decision I made because I don’t feel comfortable about true crime content being locked behind a paywall, especially when it comes to unsolved cases. That’s something I was clear about when we launched this schedule. Also, these bonus episodes were originally intended to be shorter, less detailed cases of no longer than 30 minutes in length. Over time, they have turned into full length episodes, with every bonus episode this year clocking in at over an hour. Our team has two less writers than it once did, yet we are producing consistently longer episodes.
I love the passionate comments, it means you care, but please try and keep these things in mind before making accusations about deceit and integrity.
I fully understand that people get frustrated by the breaks in our release schedule. But as I’ve reiterated multiple times, during this time we are not kicking back and doing nothing. A single episode of Casefile takes an average of a month to put together. These breaks are necessary to ensure our team can continue to create and produce the high standard of content and level of detail that our listeners expect and deserve. That level of quality simply would not be possible if we were churning episodes out non-stop.
For those who choose to stick with us and understand our schedule, thank you. We immensely appreciate the support you provide and do our best to make your subscription worthwhile. The team is currently hard at work researching, writing and producing new episodes ready for the second half of the year, with the first episode to be released in mid-July. (You will get two episodes upon our return if you are a patreon supporter on the detective teir)
I will be disabling comments for this one, so if you have an issue, please get in touch via DM and we can hash it out.
Thank you and I look forward to our return. Casey.
