Casefile Presents: The Frankston Murders Podcast

During the winter of 1993, the Melbourne suburb of Frankston was terrorised by a vicious serial killer named Paul Denyer. Following his arrest, Denyer was sentenced to life in prison, which was later changed to a 30-year minimum sentence. Three decades later, Denyer has applied for parole.

Casefile previously covered Paul Denyer’s crimes back in 2016 (Case 23). Now, to coincide with Denyer’s bid for parole, Casefile Presents is launching a longform series about the case as a reminder that Denyer must never be released.

Researched, written and hosted by award-winning crime writer Vikki Petraitis, The Frankston Murders podcast uncovers new material and new victims stalked by Denyer in the lead-up to the killings. Vikki interviews prison guards, police officers, family members, and people caught in the periphery of a serial killer.

All 11 episodes of The Frankston Murders are available now, wherever you get your podcasts.

As much as I thought I already knew, it scared the absolute s**t out of me listening to this series, that normally doesn't happen in most other casefile episodes

Roy

Thank you.

If you’re on Facebook, there’s a page called Community Pete. He posted a petition to sign.

Sharine

Is there something the public can to do ensure he is kept in jail? Some kind of petition to sign? Natalie would be my age if she was alive today.

Just finished the series... truly well done. I really appreciate Vikki Petraitis's style and victim-focused perspective.

So Real

Just curious... not pushing back, genuinely curious... should there be more specific trigger warnings for all types of potentially triggering content before all episodes? There are only two episodes of Casefile I had to stop listening to, but the triggers (as well as the types of victims, crimes, offenses, etc.) were COMPLETELY different. I realize "serious and often distressing" is quite general and non-specific, but it's ultimately at the listener's discretion.

So Real

Uhhhhhhh... you realize this is an 11-episode series? Why would all the "proof" be crammed into the first 10 minutes of the first episode? Do you walk out of movies after 10 minutes if the full plot isn't revealed? Also, this isn't an episode of the "Casefile" podcast. This is a Casefile Presents series, with a totally different host, format, and purpose. You should pass on this... sounds like you'd have a hard time hearing actual voices of real people directly impacted by horrific crime.

So Real

I merely stated that I was surprised with Casefile taking a stand in this matter. I never even gave my own opinion. And I most definitely did not show sympathy with him. I am sorry if I hurt your feelings.

David Rogosaroff

Funny how it got rid of him.

Bob Trenwith

Yeah, ‘serious and distressing’ isn’t special enough for yiu, though, is it?

Jay Tuckwell

Lol Bob I just agreed with you on the other thread but here you are not behaving so even handedly. The only way we can overcome the culture of insulting pointless comments is by applying our standards equally to everyone. Maybe she should just take up her issue with case file privately but that doesn't require sarcasm to convey. Chips is trying to stir the turd just like on the other thread but you don't have to buy in.

Andrea Johnson

I agree, let's not normalize personal attacks and shit-stirring in this forum. Imagine how quick Casey and the team will not want to even read these comments if people treat them like FB

Andrea Johnson

Kelsey K is triggered .... WARNING! Is that what you mean?

Bob Trenwith

Twisted?? Sympathy?? How does mere opinion amount to a show of sympathy? I happen to disagree with his comment, but it is not worthy of an attack.

Bob Trenwith

Cool story, bro

Kelsey K

Yes, Paul Denyer must stay in prison until he is dead. He murdered 3 women, possibly more. The world is safer with this killer hanged. What kind of twisted sympathy do you have for it?

J. Chips

I am ethically against trigger warnings. It’s just hand holding and coddling for adults who are too sensitive for this type of content. Maybe you should cancel your Patreon so we don’t have to read your comments.

I've listened to their entire catalog and have listened to them for several years. I'm only recently a patreon supporter. i listen to a questionable amount of true crime and am very acquainted with how other podcasts deal with certain very particular triggers (children/ sa/ animals) many pods have adapted their "heads up" over the years based on listener feedback. Casefile addressed listener feedback asking for a specific warning for violence against animals in a q&a. they glossed over it and said they didn't want it to taint the overall vibe of their reporting. (i'm wildly summarizing here - could be wrong) What I expect? Nothing. What I'm supplying is feedback. On top of feedback they've already received. The first episode of this presents podcast is filled with violence against animals with no warning. I won't listen to the rest. I'm hoping this feedback makes the producers and writers think harder about ways to meet the requests of their listeners while at the same time honoring their reporting styles.

Kelsey K

I think Casefile were ahead of their game in their 'blanket' trigger warning.

Jennifer Stark

I have been listening to Casefile since the very beginning. They have always stated that their episodes 'deal with serious and often distressing episodes' followed by advice contacting a local crisis support centre. What more do you expect? So many triggers for so many different people.

Jennifer Stark

I'm really over the fact you keep refusing to do any kind of trigger warning for violence against animals. You mentioned people requesting you do this in one of your Q&As and were pretty dismissive of it. I can't get thru episode one of this new series. You can warn people to just fast forward right before. It's not hard. Plenty of pods do it. Considering canceling my patreon over this matter as I think it shows a lack of respect for your audience

Kelsey K

Very longtime Casefile fan here. Not sure about this one. Casefile always prided itself in just presented the facts. Now they admit to being on a mission to keep someone in jail. Also in the first 10 minutes random incidents are being brought up without any proof of Paul being responsible. I will give this one a pass

David Rogosaroff

Already on ep 3. Thanks folks - glad to hear another ‘Vicki series’
