Case 235: House of Horrors (Part 3/3)

More disturbing secrets are unearthed at 25 Cromwell Street as the investigation into Fred West leads detectives into the remote English countryside. Fred steadfastly asserts that his wife knew nothing of his crimes, and tight-lipped Rose maintains her innocence.

As the “trial of the century” looms, prosecutors have little to implicate Rose in any murders aside from circumstantial and similar fact evidence. Will it be enough?

Case 235: House of Horrors (Part 3/3)

Comments

I was almost going to skip these 3 episodes because I’ve previously read and seen so much of the case. I’m glad that I did decide to listen, this was extremely well done. Definitely one of the best Casefiles.

Their son, Stephen West (31) was jailed for having a “relationship” with a 14 year old and getting her pregnant and trying to organise an abortion

I was born and live in Weston-Super-Mare. It gives me the creeps to think if they ever visited here.

Sammy

I agree Dave. It really hurt hearing how “it’s a fathers job…” to do those deplorable things to their daughters. I too hope that they suffer for eternity and I hope Rose lives to a much older age, suffering through her elderly days in the confines of a prison.

Zac

I was quite satisfied hearing that, and as much as I’m not one to wish death on another, hearing of his suicide bought me satisfaction too.

This case has never been done better. Of all the cases Casefile has covered, this was the toughest to get through. I can’t even reckon with the evil that these two brought into the world. I wept in my car hearing about the torture Heather and Anne Marie had to endure from these monsters. I’m not a religious person but I truly hope these two monsters are suffering somewhere for eternity.

What do you mean by "adjacent to" in this context? Not sure how the UK is "adjacent to" the US.

Bob Trenwith

Someone far smarter than me should have/probably already has written a thesis on why countries adjacent to the serial killer boom that the US had in the 60s/70s/80s also experienced the worst couple killers. In the UK we had Fred and Rose and Myra and Ian. Canada had Carla and Paul. Off the top of my head i can't think of a US couple, maybe Cindy Hendy and David Parker Ray? Either way that was a lot later. As awful as the satanic panic was, i reckon it might have led to an increased understanding of the role childhood suffering plays in a later likelihood of crime

It is so scary people like this are out there!! Amazing coverage of the story! So glad I found casefile! Trying to get my mom to join on Patreon because she I know she would love your podcast also!!

Justine Southworth

Being from the UK, this is a story I was well aware of. Fred and Rose really were evil. I’m glad Casefile finally covered this one.

Charles Comiskey

Such a horrific case, hard to believe a human being could inflict such depravity and horror on another, especially a child, it makes me sick. We the listeners get the tamed down, “Coles Notes” version of the facts of the case and that’s more than enough detail for me. With the amount of information you and the team need to sift through in order to write it, I can only imagine you’ll take a very long time getting the images out of your nightmares, I don’t know how you do it. Take care.

The poor West children. I'm glad they cremated him against his wishes. He did so many horrific things to them, it was only right they get the last jab. It wasn't nearly enough.

Demi

So, so many lives ruined. And for what?

Alan

There is nothing redeeming about Fred or Rose West. They both are the scum of the earth and specimens of unadulterated, sheer evil.
