Case 232: Jo, Michelle & Christe Rogers

In December 1988, a house for sale two doors down from JoAnn’s was purchased by a couple with a young daughter. In a street where residents knew one another and rarely moved, the new neighbours caused a stir. While the woman and child were rarely seen, the man of the house was seemingly always outside.

Case 232: Jo, Michelle & Christe Rogers

Comments

People like Chandler are exactly what the death penalty was made for.

Best coverage of this case I've heard!

Jess Ashlee

I, too, first heard of this case on Forensic Files. I now live in Florida so I would listen to any podcast that talked about it. Casefiles, by far, handled much better and in greater detail than any other. Excellent presentation, as always.

I’m so glad to hear Hal found some happiness. I can’t imagine the scope of his loss.

Miriam Dean

I was wondering if that fell within Jo’s window of suspicion. Ugh. Thank goodness for Jo, though…who know if her persistence helped prevent more crimes.

Miriam Dean

This is where I remember it from too. Shook me hard, between what the women must have gone through in their last moments and what poor Hal has had to live with.

Miriam Dean

So heartbreaking when you think of the girl in the parking lot a year and a half after the Roger's. That was roughly the time Jo was suspicious of her neighbor and Mozelle told her to be sure before she called it in, if I'm not mistaken.

I remember seeing this case on Forensic Files once. It was one of the first episodes I ever watched and it’s always stuck with me. Such a sad story.

Mandy G

Never heard of this case. So fucked up. Great episode.

Paul T

Yep! I’m downloading it now! I want to see it!

I noticed that in the Forensic Files coverage of this case as well, and I agree—it’s not right. It seems to minimize the severity of his actions.

Brenda Wells

I don't support the DP, but I am glad this monster died.

Good case 👍

Sean Donegan

This one was so very heavy. Great job.

Rebekah Felipe

As usual great storytelling. However calling the girls women when they are definitely still defined as children didn’t sit right with me.

Louisa

It is odd; but everyone is different. Perhaps he believed in innocent until proven guilty? Maybe he didn't believe it. That poor girl to survive years of sexual abuse and then he life taken in the most horrific way.

Jennifer Stark

This case has haunted me. A happy note, Hal found love again. That bastard Oba had a hand written note on him when he was executed. It read, 'you're killing an innocent man'. I don't believe in the death penalty in practice - but he got what he deserved.

Jennifer Stark

I will not judge someone for how they grieve or react to the shocking deaths of his wife and daughters but I WILL judge a father who bails his daughter’s abuser out of jail. Who even makes someone a promise like that? “I’ll bail you out no matter what” Were you expecting him to get arrested? Did you know he was a predator??

Monica

This case is so chilling I've thought many times that it would be a perfect Casefile case and I'm glad to see you guys covering it. Seems like he absolutely had more victims. I hope they gave Jo and Mozelle the reward $.

AR

Forensic Files covered this one, but it was solved.

Brenda Wells

I seem to recall seeing this on Unsolved Mysteries or something similar. I don't think they had a suspect at that time.
