The Casefile team is preparing to record the next episode of Behind the Files. This month we’ll be discussing Bernd Brandes, Julio & Candra Torres, Suzanne Armstrong & Susan Bartlett and John Chau. Please put in any questions you have about these episodes in the comments. Thank you!

Suzanne Armstrong and Susan Barlett reminded me of an earlier episode from casefile - Catherine Holmes and Georgina Watmore? I haven't gone back to relisten but from memory - two women killed in Australia in the past, several suspects but no final solution as to the killer? Did the team notice the similarities when writing the episodes or perhaps my memory is wrong

2022-05-16 14:37:06 +0000 UTCThe Bernd Brandes episode had me transfixed from front to back. The vivid details in the narrative _really_ helped how I was ‘seeing’ it in my brain so brava to them! By the end of the episode, i really was struggling with how i felt about both of their waaayyyy outside the boundaries of social norms but also that it seems pretty clear cut that it was consensual - just bc it’s so out there, if they are both into it then…as long as it’s not hurting anybody else, then… anyway, If someone had given you some important key words from the episode before you heard it and then wrote down what you expect your thoughts/feelings to be after it ended, do you think you’d still think/feel the same way? Did you come away from it feeling like this story kind of challenged some of your preconceived notions?

2022-05-15 23:12:06 +0000 UTCI already commented this when the episode was posted but figured I’d repost it here. For the Suzanne Armstrong & Susan Bartlett case: Was the elderly neighbour Gladys ever reinterviewed at any point or did they literally just give up trying? I’m shocked she allowed pride to come in the way of possibly helping solve a horrific double murder! Perhaps her information was not useful but withholding it seems unnecessarily cruel to the victim’s families, regardless of how she was treated by police. My next question was about the Bernd Brandes case. I just have to say I was disgusted. That episode got to me, the details of how he stayed alive after having his…member cut off was just horrific. What are your (the Casefile team) opinion on a person allowing themselves to be cannibalized? Do you think that is a decision they should be able to make or does it leave too much potential for murder or coercion? I feel like even if it’s legal it would be quite rare.

2022-05-13 12:12:48 +0000 UTCWas the Bernd Brandes case the hardest to record, Casey?? If it wasn’t, what case was??

2022-05-13 07:23:11 +0000 UTCWith the murders of Susan Armstrong & Suzanne Bartlett, did they ever go back and successfully reinterview the neighbour Gladys? I felt sickened when I heard how she responded to the perceived slight of having been snubbed by police, and wondered if they ever actually got any information from her. Or was she ever charged with obstruction or something like that?

2022-05-13 06:47:54 +0000 UTCI knew of the Bernd Brandes case but did not know the gory details of it until I listened to the episode. I felt absolutely sick listening to it, more than any other case that I’ve listened to. Was it harder for the team to research and work on this case compared to others?
