Case 167: Jai, Tyler & Bailey Farquharson

Shane drove towards a section of the highway that rose to a railway overpass, three kilometres out of the Winchelsea town centre. Suddenly, the car in front swerved around something. When Shane reached the same spot, a man leapt out from the darkness on the side of the road. Shane’s brother had taken his own life months earlier. Suspecting the man was trying to do the same, Shane was compelled to pull over.

I’ve never heard this before, and it is truly heartbreaking 💔 and to think, that poor mother has suffered abuse from strangers. There is absolutely nothing she could ever have done to that poor excuse of a man! To make him do such an horrific act, the only person to blame is him!! May those beautiful babies rest in peace 🙏

Martina Tyers

Another great episode.

Charles Comiskey

1. Because cases involving children are particularly hard to listen to and 2. Because I live where this happened, this case hits close to home

Nicole Reyment

It seems really strange that you'd avoid an episode for geographical reasons.

Jon Maynes

Why?

Jon Maynes

Reminds me very much of the Susan Smith case in the US in the 90s, and yeah, nobody blamed her ex-husband or her boyfriend that I remember.

Brenda Wells

I’ve never gotten so emotional over a case that it made me cry, but this one had me crying about 20 minutes in. Great episode handled with care.

Haley

Well put, totally agree.

Melskiwana

I have to say that this podcast is brilliantly written. The handling of telling these stories of depravity yet delivering a powerful message about humanity is what sets Casefile apart. I’ve scaled back on other true crime that seems to wallow in shock value of the crime without doing the hard work of investigating or any assemblance of storytelling.

John Stoeckel

I think you'd call it a pond.

Nicci Foster

Oh, I know this story, if it’s the one I’m Thinking of 💔💔💔💔

Maya George

Yes

Ruth Tilleard

All that resentment .... condensed in the repeated signifier of ‘the good car’

Rosie Overell

As kids we were always taught how quickly you can drown in a dam. They get deep very fast

Rosie Overell

Helen Garner’s book ‘this house of grief’ is brilliant on the kind of failed masculinity that led to this horrific crime

Rosie Overell

Zana

nuclear family with a healthy outward appearance unknowingly adjacent to the depths of evil that men do. there is something horrific about that and it almost embodies that idea behind Twin Peaks of "what would make someone commit murder?" but instead of being possessed by evil spirits from black lodges, this man is driven solely by the intent to cause maximum damage using revenge to restore his pride.

hotbagels

it was fantastically written. the cold open had my mouth hanging wide open while gardening. glad she got that grave plot legally moved is all I can say. poor woman. the killer is especially whiny and detestable. it's hard to think of one you've profiled I dislike more off the top of my head and I've heard each episode.

hotbagels

Tragic. And the abuse Cindy copped from some, as if she must have caused Robert to murder their kids - despicable. A man would never be subject to victim blaming like that if roles were reversed. Great ep thanks Casefile.

Melskiwana

Thank you!!! I was thinking it may have something to do with irrigation or livestock

B-randy D

A dam is just a small body of water dug into a paddock usually as a water source for livestock.

Jon Maynes

Can someone down under explain the dam to me? Or a dam in general? In my mind I see a dam in a lake holding back the water., is that the same type of thing in this story?

B-randy D

Can‘t believe this story

Cathy

I live in Geelong, I’m not sure I can listen to this one :(

Nicole Reyment

This episode. Urg. I've read about this case in a psychology book. Breaks my heart every single time
