Case 151: Dan O'Connell & James Ellison

The only funeral home in Hudson was a sprawling, single-storey brick and weatherboard building owned by a local resident, Tom O’Connell, whose family had lived in the area for generations. Tom’s uncle had owned an undertaking business in town prior to World War II and in 1985, Tom decided to relaunch the family business.

Hi Jennifer, we have removed that line. Thank you for bringing that to our attention.

Thank you Jennifer. We will look into this.

The Catholic Church no longer considers suicide a mortal sin. The Wikipedia information quoted in the episode is incorrect. The Church's latest stance on suicide is referenced below. As a Catholic and loyal listener, it would be most appreciated if this correction could be noted, This is the second episode to incorrectly quote the Church's teachings. "The church acknowledges, however, that most people who die by suicide suffer from mental illness and are thus incapable of making a clear, rational decision. This was first reflected in 1992 when John Paul II approved the Catechism of the Catholic Church, which clearly articulated this position for the first time." - https://uscatholic.org/articles/201410/is-suicide-a-sin/

Great job team. The older I get, the more I see that people do a lot of terrible things for money and sex. There is a lot of good done by the church. But yes, a lot of bad. Like many stories, the warnings were numerous, but the watchers did not care.

MM

Really good episode. It reminded me how much I really dislike hearing stories about sex abuse and sex abuse in organisations

Maya George

Amazing episode - well done

Victor Garcia

Is this one any good? I’m 30 minutes in and it’s not grabbing me yet, should I keep going? Does it turn around?

Rhys Halliwell

holy crap! casefile is like no other podcast.

Julia

So incredibly well done, and the ending with the prayer of St. Francis had chills down my spine.

Annie Brod

That escalated quickly. I find these types of crimes especially awful. Such an abuse of trust and power.

Rebekah

You had me at "Hudson... cheese, milk and ice cream" .. Once again, great job Casey n Co.

Candice Williams

When I read the description at first I was like “Hudson? Like, Wisconsin?” Sure enough! I love how the Australian podcast does more stories that take place in my own backyard (Minnesota girl, here) than any other!

Roxy Orcutt

The church is the biggest criminal organisation in history, propped up by the biggest lie in history.
