Case 146: Brittany Phillips

In 2003, 17-year-old Brittany Phillips was thrilled when she received a full scholarship to study chemistry at Eckerd College in Saint Petersburg, a coastal city in Florida’s Tampa Bay region. Her mother, Doctor Maggie Zingman, had attended the same college in the 1970s and excitedly helped her daughter prepare for the interstate move from their hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Case 146: Brittany Phillips

Comments

I found this so absorbing. I couldn’t stop listening once it started and I’m devastated about the ending. Great episode though a truely awful story :(

Maya George

Media outlets telling a grieving parent that her daughter’s brutal murder was too “boring” to receive national attention is an absolutely disgusting response. Thank you for covering her case.

I contacted Maggie via Facebook and she has provided a PayPal link so that you can donate to her campaign if you wish: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?token=Ssq20yAKMQjE_OHWQaM5Cvf4dC4ebXo57XIgHnbi1wXnt5XzkV1U-hhzqNzzymP-4cnV-0&country.x=US&locale.x=US

Truly horrifying that it was so easy to access her apartment via the attic crawl space

Great episode. Casefile does a great job, as always. I feel this mother’s pain. Tulsa is my hometown. I also attended TCC for a semester. I pray this family gets the answers they deserve.

Truly heart breaking.

Spoilers ahead ---- The security guard was ruled out based on DNA, but given the new information that the DNA did not belong to the killer, should he be looked at again? I hope Brittany's family can get justice someday.

Samantha

The police had DNA from the rape and under Brittany's fingernails which may now be identifiable. What happened to it?

I listen to true crime throughout the day, everyday and had never heard this case. I would love to see it solved for Brittany’s mom as well as justice for Brittany.
