TYPED Q&A

Hi Elle, not so much to know about them. However I'd talk to anyone who'd be willing to give information that could assist a family. For example, someone convicted of certain crimes, who is a suspect in unsolved crimes.

Casefile True Crime

Hey Casey, If you had the opportunity to have a one to one conversation with any of the killers deceased or still alive, is there one (or a few) you’d reallllly want to talk to in an attempt to understand their actions or motive? And what would you want to know about them?

Elle Phelps

Hi Captain Flint. Thank you! We were specifically looking for a mutiny case, just to mix things up for a bit. And that's how we came across the story of The Batavia. Coincidentally, after we decided to do it, there was a comment or two on social media requesting that we cover it.

Casefile True Crime

Not sure you are still answering these but how did The Batavia case end up being covered? Was it Erin's idea or did a listener send in a suggestion? Casefile is my favorite podcast but that episode was my absolute favorite of all the cases you have done!

Captain Flint

Casey... although I think I may have found you a while ago... I would never disclose. Keep up your dreamy narration 🤩

Georgina

Spewing mate!!

That Prog guy

Hi Melissa! I was way back in the day. Armed robbery. Wasnt hurt.

Casefile True Crime

Have you or anyone close to you ever been affected by a crime?

Melissa

Hi Adam. There are so many. Our list is now into the hundreds!

Casefile True Crime

Hi Susan. It's more gut feel then any set criteria that I can point too! The Joe Rogan Experience is my fav podcast.

Casefile True Crime

Hi Jamee, I think how do you select cases and what is the most difficult case you have done are the two most common. No I don't get sick of answering the same Q's. I love talking to our patrons, and I understand not everyone can make every Q and A, and we have new patrons joining all the time.

Casefile True Crime

I missed out on tickets! Missed out on Offspring tickets too. Not having a good run.

Casefile True Crime

Hi Pegi, Thankyou. No, absolutely not. When I first started, I was hoping to get to 100 downloads. Then when that happened I was hoping to get to 1000. But it just kept growing. It still seems surreal. I am very thankful.

Casefile True Crime

Hi Nikki, fortunately no, I haven't.

Casefile True Crime

Hi Jenny. Yes I love reading. Any good book recommendations (non true crime)? I also like doing fitness activities like running, and I love music and sport.

Casefile True Crime

Hi joy, it depends on the case. Sometimes they are put together entirely from online and archival research. Other times we speak to family members, investigators, journalists, writers or other people involved in a case (even when interview clips are not played).

Casefile True Crime

Hi Nick, I didn't really know if it would work when I started. I just thought it seemed the right way to do it for Casefile. Keep the focus on the facts and the story as opposed to a host figure. It was always the plan to do it that way, never considered another format.

Casefile True Crime

Hi Gavin yes that has happened before. Previously we have been working cases when the victims families have changed their minds and no longer wished for an episode to air. Which is something we will always respect.

Casefile True Crime

Hello Sheehanseth. No I haven't..........yet :)

Casefile True Crime

Hi Amanda, it's a team effort. Everyone names cases and we all chime in with pros and cons and if we will be able to do the case justice as a casefile episode. There is no set, strict, criteria we use.

Casefile True Crime

Hi Mine. Love a good wine. Both red and white. I don't know if I really have a favourite, I like them all. Sweet and dry. I'll go with a Shiraz if I have to name one type. I have never tried sunset gin.

Casefile True Crime

Hi Genevieve, no I don't. Healthy doses of exercise work for me. Yes I think most know now. The secret is out.

Casefile True Crime

Hi Shannon. Each has challenges. Foreign language cases are always taught due to the translations required. The bigger cases like Azaria and Belanglo are always challenging. The third episode out this year was also a challenge. For reasons that will be clear when it is released!

Casefile True Crime

Hi Jordana, surprisingly no, I don't.

Casefile True Crime

Hi Georgina, no I don't think so. I'm over 30 though, I can give that away.

Casefile True Crime

Is there a case that you would personally like to see covered that hasn’t been done yet?

Adam

How do you select people to join the Casefile team? What is your favorite podcast?

Susan Rachel

You guys have done quite a few of these now. What’s the question you (Casey) have been asked most? And do you ever get sick of answering the same questions? :)

Jamee K

Are you seeing TOOL on their oz tour, Casey?

That Prog guy

Did u ever think your podcast would be this popular? I remember u saying it began in a closet space, just you alone. Yours was the first podcast I listened to about true crime. I had no idea there are so many missing people in this world and murdered people , cases unsolved.Im painfully aware if a case gets no media attention, it disappears. So many small town cases like this worldwide so u have your work cut out for you Thanks for all you guys bring into the light💪 I just discovered another podcast called The Invisible Choir -unsolved cases so I’m looking forward to listening to it🙂

Pegi Miskey

Has there ever been a case you regretted putting out after the fact?

Nikki Hovekamp

@host - what are some of your hobbies or past times currently? what do you like to do for fun? (I got a kindle for Christmas so I’m pretty wrapped up in that at the moment!)

Jenny

How does the team get so much information on cases? Do you mostly rely on online research, or do you have other methods to gather data (taking into account that you cover cases from all around the world and that you guys also work remotely)?

Joy Ramos

The tone of Casefile is very specific, and it contrasts heavily with most true crime shows that are as much about the hosts as they are about the subject matter. It’s a great strength of your show and its integrity. How did you know to present the information the way you? How long to nail the tone of Casefile before committing to it?

Nick Nunziata

Has there ever been a case that you have started but scrapped due it being too controversial or because of ethical or sensitivity issues like perhaps victims families etc? Thanks :)

Gavin Cooke

Hello, Casefile team! Long time listener, first time Patreon subscriber and question-asker. For Casey, have you ever crashed any sort of True Crime conventions, knowing full well nobody knows who you are?

sheehanseth .

What are you disappointed by?

Donna Mehta

Hi Casey and case file team! I’ve always wondered.... what criteria does a case have to make for you to decide to to an episode on it? Does one person have the final say or is it a team agreement on what cases you cover? 🤔

Amanda Lewis

It's not a live Q&A. You ask the questions and they respond later.

Noelle Frost

Georgina

If you are wine drinker, what is your favourite drop? 🍷 Also, are you a fan of a sunset gin? 🍸

Mine du Plessis

Hi Casey, this may have been asked at some stage, but do you need therapy to balance out all the horrific cases you must spend a lot of time focused on? And do your friends an family know you’re the anonymous Casefile host, or is it a very well kept secret?

Genevieve Chunn

What has been the hardest case to research?

Shannon Perez (shaslove1)

Casey, will you ever reveal yourself? Are you tall or short? Blonde or brunette? Are you over 30? Sorry to be fickle but I’d really like to have a faint image of you when you’re narrating... 😘

Georgina

Do you ever find yourself more paranoid or curious about people because you deal with true crime so much?

Jordana
