Interesting case!

Melanie G.

Poor girl. Not that victim blaming is okay but you can see why the case confused people... mainly because the perpetrators seemed to have no real objective, but it was such an elaborate set up. Reminded me of the public reaction when Kim Kardashian was robbed- she was either 'being dramatic' if she didn't want to go out in public after that, or 'playing it up' if she did, or she should 'just get over it'. Being tied up and held hostage is traumatic whether you have diamonds in the house or not.

Incredible as always. Knew nothing about the case, was white-knuckled and clammy handed for a good chunk of my morning, s’how you know it was a great episode. ☺️ That, and when a moment in an episode makes me audibly curse in my quiet cubicle. I broke a stapler because of the end of a silk road episode... Cheers all! Thank you! ❤️

This has echos of Lindy Chamberlain about it Women in particular, who do not conform to a stereotype of how a female victim should behave, are treated viciously by the media and public. It seems they have to cry, in public and a lot, and privacy for grief is not tolerated.

man, any video/article you see about this is full of comments from some very hardcore victim-blamers. there's zero evidence that she set this up- people just can't stand to see someone not "acting how they should". thanks for reporting on the actual facts, CF.

Kate Ashwin

No problems at all Matt. Completely understandable. Sorry to hear that happened to you.

I appreciate the response. Like I said, I may be projecting my own experiences on the CF team which is certainly unfair. Thanks for telling her story as I was unfamiliar with her.

Hi Matt. That was a big theme in the story - Chloe being vilified, disbelieved and even blamed by the media. So we had to cover examples of what Chloe faced in order to get that across. Reporting on what Dr Phil said, or any of the other media - is not us supporting their comments at all or attempting to victim blame. We were painting the picture of what Chloe had to face, despite the forensic evidence supporting her, despite the police and courts believing her - the media didnt. We think there is something in that and wanted to convey that. Victim blaming is the last thing we were trying to do. I thought we made it very clear that what Chloe said happened - did happen. There's no way to convey just how bad the media was towards her - without going over what they did/said/reported.

I enjoyed it but couldn't help but feel the episode dipped into a bit of victim shaming. What difference does it make what that hack "Dr" Phil thinks? I may be wrong but feel like the writing was a little less objective than usual. Again, this is just my personal opinion and im a bit conscious of this because I have experienced it firsthand after we had a house fire . I got accused kfnkt being remorseful enough and for being over emotional. I feel bad for the model and feel like she should have been presented in an innocent until proven guilty manner.

Excellent episode. This is why podcasts are so important. Impartial and factual reporting of cases funded by the people that want to hear them. The media is out of control and trial by media is becoming a huge issue. Well done CF. keep it going.
