Episode Length Poll
Added 2017-11-01 23:27:00 +0000 UTCWhen we research and produce Casefile episodes we never set the running time – it all depends on the available information and access we get. However, we are curious what do you prefer? Longer episodes or shorter? And why?

I love the longer episodes! Always listening whilst driving or working out- so the longer episodes are cool with me. Keep up the awesome work guys!

2017-11-08 21:09:11 +0000 UTCAs long as the story runs for - if there's more content then longer run time.
Catherine Smith
2017-11-06 06:32:22 +0000 UTCIt makes my heart sing when I see there is an episode of at least an hour and a half. Something to really look forward to.
Rachel Singer
2017-11-04 13:16:13 +0000 UTCIt doesn't really worry me, as if the episode is longer than I can listen (usually because I need to go to sleep!), I'll just pause it and continue it later. As Judith said, some stories need longer episodes (or a series of episodes), and that's absolutely fine with me!

2017-11-04 01:42:39 +0000 UTC2hours in one sitting is too long for me. However, the story needs to take as long as it needs to properly convey the information. I'd rather two mini episodes if more than maybe 90mins than presenting one long story.
Judith Gage
2017-11-04 00:14:45 +0000 UTCThe longer the better. I get far more invested in cases when I get more details about the victims, the perpetrators, and the investigation. Makes the case far more impactful!

2017-11-03 20:28:58 +0000 UTCI prefer longer stories, but I also like it when you break the cases up into several hour long episodes.

2017-11-02 22:30:38 +0000 UTCI absolutely love settling in to a long Casefile episode, i figure i can pause it if i need a break and podcast eps ending too soon is always disappointing. I chose 2+ hours however if that means jamming everything in to one ep- rather than a few eps- i think it's better to have a reasonably long ep of over 1 hour with multiple eps per case to get have a good balance of quality and quantity. I love getting excited for another ep when it's part of a series on one case. DEFINITELY do not go any shorter than 1 hour! Of all my true crime podcasts Casefile is still my favourite because it really dives in to the case rather than skimming it.

2017-11-02 21:02:16 +0000 UTCAs much Casefile as you want to give us!
Meredith Gronroos
2017-11-02 19:26:24 +0000 UTCQuality over length. If the story needs an hour, give it an hour. If there is only enough reputable information for less than an hour, then that’s that
Clare Jeans
2017-11-02 19:08:26 +0000 UTCYou always seem to pick and appropriate length and detail level to keep the narrative moving and interesting!

2017-11-02 15:06:29 +0000 UTCAgree with Holly. As long as it needs to be, though I do tend to prefer longer ones, rather than shorter.
Marian
2017-11-02 13:52:49 +0000 UTCIt should be as long as it needs to be. I do love that there is no annoying chitchat or extended periods of dramatic music.
Holly Santor
2017-11-02 13:46:57 +0000 UTCa little over an hour is perfect!
JenniferLB
2017-11-02 12:10:54 +0000 UTCI love the longer episodes, but it really just depends on how long it takes to tell the whole story!
Kristen Ahlstrom
2017-11-02 12:07:05 +0000 UTCI voted no preference, but what I really prefer is that it differs and that it depends on the case at hand. That way we get both short and long episodes, and can choose depending on how much time we have to spend.

2017-11-02 10:56:15 +0000 UTCWhile I do prefer the longer episode, and I did vote for the second option, I agree that there is no point in just filling for the sake of filling. I do prefer longer episodes to multiple part episodes though. The reason I like the longer ones is because they help you get into the story, and really get to know the characters. My final suggestion, go with your gut! If you feel that you’ve done enough for an episode, don’t extend it just because It’s less than an hour ect etc. When you do the episode, think of yourselves as the listeners, and think is this enough or too much? I trust your instincts.

2017-11-02 08:46:24 +0000 UTCLove the longer episodes but would never want you to compromise the quality of your podcast. I feel your team has done an outstanding job of making the episodes as long as they need to be. Thanks for your hard work.
Alma Holevinski
2017-11-02 05:34:43 +0000 UTCI agree with Bernadette. I have no preference, I enjoy all of the podcasts no matter the length, as you put in the detail as appropriate to each case. I just like to hear it told :)
Kate Hindle
2017-11-02 05:30:07 +0000 UTCThe longer the better. The quality of writing is never affected by length
Tim Berry
2017-11-02 05:22:33 +0000 UTCI chose no preference, I like the fact that you seem to make each podcast as long as it needs to be to tell each story and use what research you have.
Bernadette Bean
2017-11-02 03:53:00 +0000 UTCWhatever the Casefile team deem necessary to tell the story in the perfect way that you do.
Jo Richardson
2017-11-02 03:11:08 +0000 UTCThe longer the better...assuming you have enough compelling information to fill the time. I find this podcast to be compulsive listening! Thank You!
Kerry Jamieson
2017-11-02 02:55:16 +0000 UTCI prefer episodes around an hour even if there are multiple parts
Jonathan Pierce
2017-11-02 02:33:14 +0000 UTCLonger!
Erica Ocaranza
2017-11-02 02:01:00 +0000 UTCTime isn’t as important as content. I’ve never thought the material was thin nor excessive. Having said that, I really enjoy the more detailed episodes.
Jeffrey Wyler
2017-11-02 01:34:50 +0000 UTCI think it depends on the info you have available. There’s no point making filler for episode length. I do like the longer ones though :)
Alarna Kladnig
2017-11-02 01:30:01 +0000 UTCThank you for asking! My first instinct is "as long as it takes you to tell the story in your usual masterful way." But then I remember how thrilled I am whenever I open an episode and see it's a long one.
Jen N.
2017-11-02 01:24:06 +0000 UTCThe longer the better in my opinion
Sophie McKenzie
2017-11-02 01:16:49 +0000 UTCMaybe between 1:30 and 2:00 hours long, with multiple parts if it's a larger more complex case. Loved the East Bay rapist, Moores murders and Yorkshire ripper cases with multiple parts.
Nick Payton
2017-11-02 00:19:21 +0000 UTCLong because I like lots of details and appreciate the audio, when available. :)

2017-11-02 00:06:00 +0000 UTCI voted for less than an hour, but I’ve never had a problem with episode length. You guys do such a good job with research that I’ve never been dissatisfied.
David Sanocki
2017-11-02 00:04:52 +0000 UTCJonestown was the best case you’ve ever done and the length was fantastic. Keep doing what your doing and forget about length :)
Ethan Lowry
2017-11-01 23:57:33 +0000 UTCLonger than an hour.
Jody Carroll
2017-11-01 23:53:08 +0000 UTCIt really depends on the case I think. I never feel like the episodes are too long or too short.
Captain Flint
2017-11-01 23:52:59 +0000 UTCI like the 1-2.5 hour stories but tend to prefer them as a single episode rather than multi-episodes. Night Stalker and Jonestown were too long for me.
Paul Cole
2017-11-01 23:42:12 +0000 UTCWhilst I think its great that your asking us. The Casefile Team seems to have a instinct for the right length including when a story needs several parts.
Dylan Buckle
2017-11-01 23:42:07 +0000 UTCI honestly don’t mind - but selfishly I’d say longer than one hour because I hate when an episode runs out midway through my drive to work 😂 No honestly you guys do a great job regardless the length!
Mel Barnes
2017-11-01 23:38:19 +0000 UTCWhat Amber said. ^^
Jamee K
2017-11-01 23:36:15 +0000 UTCIt depends on the case. I love the in depth episodes, but the ones that are short due to being simpler and more straightforward are also great.
Kelly Swainson
2017-11-01 23:32:38 +0000 UTCThat’s a tough question. While I generally like cases to be at least an hour or more, sometimes the multi part cases are good but then it’s also nice to mix it up with the shorter stories. Port Arthur is a great example of this. The story was told brilliantly and it didn’t need to be dragged on over two hours or a multi.
