hello Host. Your voice and delivery is perfect for this podcast.

HelpFind Ajax&Stamp

Do you have a case that was your favourite at this point? Favourite story to tell?

Mikki

I see another Person has said how they love your voice. I also love your voice it is the right tone to add to the intrigue. Casefile is the best ever podcast. How did you get into this? Also are you able to get transcripts from police investigations. I wonder how you source all your research documents. Please do not stop doing Casefile it is just brilliant thank you for thinking about doing it and actually taking the plunge.

Grace Halligan

As always - many thanks. Such good work and you've provided so many us with hours of fascinating cases. Off to do some shopping at Westfield now - nowhere near as interesting :-(

Kym McCauley

I agree! I love your story telling style and am thankful that you tell long stories with a lot of detail. Thank you for all of your hard work! I can't imagine how difficult accomplishing consistent episodes must be along with attending a full time job.

Elizabeth stewart

Thanks for this. Can't wait til the next episode!

Sara Moore

Hee hee I won't rub it in. Have a great day.

Gillian Freeman

Thanks for staying up Naama. Good night.

Casefile True Crime

Thank you for the AMA !!! And we look forward to listening to the next case you have for us :)

Laura Bagnell

Thanks you for your time and answers. Can't wait for next weeks episode. If it's even half as good as last weeks it will be epic πŸ˜†

Ryan Beattie

Thanks Gillian. We won't talk about that roosters broncos game though please πŸ˜‰

Casefile True Crime

Thanks for everything, it was great being here. Totally worth staying up till 4 AM. Looking forward to hearing you again very soon

Naama and Geoff Shang

Hi host! Your cases just get better and better. They're more like mini audio books. I truly don't know how you fit it in but thank you, thank you, thank you!! Oh, and the Roosters and the Broncos are doing well, so it's all good 😊

Gillian Freeman

Alright everyone. The time has come for me to start recording 53. Thank you All for joining in today. Some great questions as always. And hopefully the Sydney Roosters can get another win today in the NRL πŸ˜€

Casefile True Crime

Thank you Nicky

Casefile True Crime

I totally get that. Well I know I'm not alone in saying that I absolutely LOVE Casefile and am always hanging out for the next one. I think I might just have to buy myself a hoodie or mug 😊 You and your team are doing a fabulous job. Thank you

Nicky McInnes

No worries about that, I am sure I can speak for everyone here and say we will keep listening… There is always someone waiting for the next episode…

Naama and Geoff Shang

I've only ever seen making a murderer. Never read or seen a thing on it other then that show. I definitely can't form an opinion based on what is essentially a one sided documentary. And I'm not being critical - it's quite possible he is innocent. But I'd need to get a proper look at everything and do some serious proper research before coming to a conclusion. Very dangerous forming an opinion based on what information documentary makers decide to leave in and out.

Casefile True Crime

Yeah it is a full time job. I still have my other full time job. Basically it just means whenever I'm not at work I'm doing casefile. It's a very full on schedule but as long you all keep listening. I'm happy to keep doing it. No complaints here. We are Just so grateful people enjoy listening to the show. But it is the reason why we can't commit to an episode per week - it's just not possible.

Casefile True Crime

Is steven Avery Innocent?

Ryan Beattie

See that type of boxing match I could get into! Have a good sleep.

Casefile True Crime

I don't have a question but I just want you to know that I love your voice and the way you present your show. Actually I do have a question, is casefile becoming a full time job? When do you do your research and taping? Evenings? Weekends? Do you have time for a 9-5 job?

Nicky McInnes

Fair enough ;)

Justine Kelly

It was best fight I've seen for a while. Proper Rocky stuff! Only watch bits and pieces of MMA but it's not that big in the UK. Anyways it's 2am and bed time for me. Keep the podcasts going! Love them!

Sam

Thank you Naama

Casefile True Crime

I don't blame you - it'd be like a chef coming home and cooking!!!

Kym McCauley

Lol, fair one πŸ˜‚

Ryan Beattie

And if I tell you what I am reading and watching - that would be a spoiler alert πŸ˜‰

Casefile True Crime

No nothing at the moment. Unless it relates to a case I don't really read or watch anything true crime anymore.

Casefile True Crime

Good question Justine πŸ˜€

Ryan Beattie

Thank you Ryan.

Casefile True Crime

I bet it was. I cannot imagine having to describe that and read and re read it out loud… You did an amazing job

Naama and Geoff Shang

Any true crime TV series or books you're hooked on at the moment?

Justine Kelly

I didn't know. Never been massive on boxing. Love mma and kickboxing though. Although not very knowledgable on the players in kickboxing - I just love watching glory.

Casefile True Crime

The Moors 3 parter was a tough but brilliant listen. The detail in the case was brilliant. Being from the U.K. I've heard that story a 100 times, but never like that.

Ryan Beattie

Sorry - to be fair I should've written forensics instead of DNA

Kym McCauley

Yeah we are open to all types of cases. Something we will no doubt cover in the future.

Casefile True Crime

Yeah that was tough. It left me feeling really, really empty that case. I had no idea he depravity involved. I mean I knew it wasn't going to be a happy story. But it was tough.

Casefile True Crime

I listened to a few episodes to see what all the hype was about. Then my friend told me how it ended. So never got round to the last few episodes. No comvicted people have contacted us.

Casefile True Crime

Did you watch the Joshua vs Klitschko fight a couple of hours ago? What you think? AJ the real deal?

Sam

Have you thought about looking at cases where DNA evidence has caused a miscarriage of justice? There may be plenty of these cases coming from South Australia in the near future!

Kym McCauley

Thanks Ben. No. No one we haven't spoken to in producing the episode.

Casefile True Crime

S-Town was awful in my opinion. Seemed to have so much promise but never went anywhere. Have you listened to it Mr Anon?

Sam

Most of them. I think all are trying to do the right thing and try there best. Hard to go part Dennis Ryan for individual effort. LAPD to in the Hollywood shootout. Everyone else is trying to run as far away from that as possible - yet they run into it.

Casefile True Crime

I find that because of the excellent writing an excellent presentation, the cases off and stay with me for days. But the case that has definitely affected me most and I cannot get out of my head to this day is the Moors murders.

Naama and Geoff Shang

Also, Has anyone convicted contacted you to 'tell there story'? (Which I think was the driver for the start of another podcast s-town, not nearly as good as casefile imo!)

Ben

Yeah the script is written edited and re written. I do a few reads before hand. (Still doesn't stop a thousand mistakes that require re recording) very occasionally things will be changed on the fly during the recording as well.

Casefile True Crime

39 then ;)

Sam

Great work to all the case file team, been listening since the start and it's been fantastic. I'm interested to know if anyone associated with the crimes has reached out to you after release?

Ben

What police force has impressed you the most in all you cases?

Ryan Beattie

25-39 :)

Casefile True Crime

What age range are you in if you don't mind me asking? I think the accent throws me and I just can't tell.

Sam

Do you write out the entire script for yourself before you start recording? I'm so impressed with how you structure everything

Justine Kelly

Sorry about that. I am using a screen reader and patreon isn't the most accessible thing on the Internet…

Naama and Geoff Shang

I cannot wait to learn what 53 is. I hope that you and Anna can clear your minds once it is recorded and you can move on to something else.

Laura Bagnell

I don't believe so no. I'll note this one too.

Casefile True Crime

That's interesting - with the Chamberlain case there wasn't actually a crime comitted - plenty of injustice took place though!!!

Kym McCauley

Have you considered the Etan Patz case (US)? There was just a conviction but a lot of mystery still surrounds the case.

Sara Moore

Yes, I am with you. I also like a balance of yes, I am with you. I also like a balance between the solved and the unsolved.

Naama and Geoff Shang

Do some info for you all. Recording 53 part 1 as soon as the AMA is finished. This is the one that scared our researcher and writer Anna. And I can see why. It woke me up in the middle of he night after I was done with the script edits. I'm mentally preparing for the narration now.

Casefile True Crime

Yeah I like a balance of both too.

Casefile True Crime

Good night

Casefile True Crime

I like to hear a mix of the solved and the unsolved. The solved cases give hope that the unsolved ones will join them one day.

Laura Bagnell

Those early episodes must have been horrendous narration wise. I remember copping a bit of stick for it on social and in reviews. But I don't listen once I've finished the actual recording. I can't stand the sound of my own voice.

Casefile True Crime

You can't rush perfection πŸ˜€πŸ‘

Brett_T

Yes please, more unsolved cases, all it takes is the right person to hear something again or play on their sense of right or wrong and wouldn't that be an incredible feeling if it was your podcast that finally gives the victim and families closure.

Brett_T

Possibly. Can't say for sure 100 per cent. But they could make episodes for sure.

Casefile True Crime

:) I actually sat there and tried to think of something else that didn't give it away and I just had nothing. I'm already deep into 53 (recording as soon as this AMA finishes) I find it hard to think back to previous cases when I'm focussed on another. Even though it was only recorded last week!!! Yeah 52 next week. Then there shouldn't be a break for a good 5 weeks at least.

Casefile True Crime

Hello and nice to see a familiar name in the chat Kym! Have a good day! :)

WillOwl11

If it was financially viable I could see myself doing it. I think. I enjoy working on these stories and bringing them to you all. Particularly shedding light on the unsolved ones.

Casefile True Crime

Yes! I shall await this awesomeness! It's 2:30 hrs here and Patreon keeps crashing on me so I'm going to say goodnight. Looking forward to Case 52. :)

WillOwl11

My husband is from Australia, and we are interested to know whether you plan to cover either the Azaria chamberlain or Colin Winchester cases.

Naama and Geoff Shang

Good morning Naama. Thank you

Casefile True Crime

A little thin of a hint my friend. πŸ˜€, I assume it will be next week?

Brett_T

I've noticed the voice variations lately too - especially during the Hindley/Brady narratives!

Kym McCauley

Thank you Olivia

Casefile True Crime

Luckily I found an awesome team of people.

Casefile True Crime

In terms of production I knew pretty much straight away. But it didn't happen till episode 7. I had no idea what I was doing and I knew the sound and music was bad. Research was around episode mid twenties. I could no longer cope solo working full time and researching and writing. I had to bring other people in.

Casefile True Crime

Hello from the UK at 1:24am! Love the podcasts. Can you see yourself doing this full time? If financially it was viable would you want to?

Sam

Yeah definitely spontaneous. Maybe something that is eveloving. I don't go in with a plan. I just do what feels right. Speaking of voice variations. Case 52 gets a little crazy. Will be interested to here the feedback on that.

Casefile True Crime

Thanks Joe Rogan πŸ‘

Brett_T

One I remember from when I was a kid Gary Heidnik

Karl

Thank you Anthena.

Casefile True Crime

US.

Casefile True Crime

I was injured and off work for a while. Needed something to out my mind on. Saw making a murderer. Heard serial (I was late to that show). Loved podcasts. Thought it would be cool to start one. Started looking into the Wanda Beach murders - a case I had heard of since I was young - but knew nothing about. And here we are. Inspired by the joe Rogan podcast (he is forever telling people to start their own) and hardcore history (extensively researched and detailed storytelling)

Casefile True Crime

Thank you from Canada. πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

Mikki

I bet! Let us know if you start a gofundme to cover your therapy. I'm sure we'd all be willing to chip in :)

Jen N.

*you're

Ben Barnes

Hi James. Yeah it was a fine line this one. So what I decided to do was mention it without specifically mentioning it. I let the listeners fill in the gaps. I thought it was obvious the way I presented the information that that's what happened. But maybe it was only obvious to me because I already knew. Fine line as I said.

Casefile True Crime

Good morning from Israel, where it's 3:11 in the morning. Before anything else I'd like to thank you for providing such wonderful content. We are avid listeners and often listen to episodes multiple times.

Naama and Geoff Shang

I'm sure it will get better over time, like your rendition. The first time I listened to The Wanda Beach murders, I was so anxious because you weren't breathing between words in a sentence! But now you pretty much nail it.

WillOwl11

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question Casefile. I also love how you have transcripts of the cases, I am deaf so it means that I can enjoy the podcast even more. In fact your one of the only podcast that I can really enjoy and not be hesitant to click on it. Thanks Casefile

Ben Barnes

Have a good day/afternoon/evening to all y'all...😍

Pat Rolfes

Hello from New England, USA! How long into doing the podcast did you realize that you needed to bring other people on board to help with research, production, etc? Why?

Michele Arsenault

Yeah but we generally can't help ourselves. We love a good rabbit hole or ten. If things start sounding too far fetched or heavily opinionated with no shred of facts then we will stop.

Casefile True Crime

Hello! It seemed like you were trying a few voice variations in the Jennifer Pan episode. Even though your tone has changed in other episodes based on the context, this was the first time I heard you doing a full variation. Did you work on this or was it spontaneous? Are you planning to do this more frequently? :)

WillOwl11

Also just want to say thank you for the podcast! You guys are far and above the best crime storytelling podcast out. <3 the host, <3 the theme song, <3 your hard work!!! Thank you!!

Athena Wisotsky

A rough guide is 4-6x the episode length recording time. So 8-12 hours for a 2 hours episode. The amount of mistakes I make when narrating is unbelievable. Something about when the red recording light goes on - suddenly I can't talk. I literally have ten takes to record a simple paragraph sometimes. It can be incredible frustrating at times.

Casefile True Crime

We always like to use first hand accounts where possible. Who better to tell a story - or critical parts of a story - then the people who were there. But they aren't always available in the cases we cover. And it can be very tricky trying to work out what to include and what to leave out.

Casefile True Crime

Any hints on the next case?

Brett_T

Thanks for putting in a good word πŸ‘

Casefile True Crime

So what made you start the podcast?

Jane Hooley

I know this is probably an odd question, but it's something I've been wondering for a while- I've noticed that in some cases where there's a sexual element to the crime, this is minimised in the podcast. The one that comes to mind most is Mr Cruel- I didn't even realise there was a sexual element to the crimes until I googled it after listening to the episode. As much as I don't particularly want to be exposed to any details of such abhorrent crime, I thought it was an odd thing to not mention since it was such a key part of Mr Cruel's crimes and motives. Is this intentional? If so, is it for the sake of sparing listeners/researchers the horrific details of such information, or for another reason? Thanks for such a phenomenal show.

James M W

Thanks Pat.

Casefile True Crime

Thank you Matt. Yeah definitely. We have quite a few more we want to cover from that part of the world.

Casefile True Crime

I'll note it down. I have a feeling with this one it may already bee on our list of cases to look into further. But I'm not 100 per cent on that.

Casefile True Crime

How long do you spend on researching before you stop? I'd imagine you could just keep going down rabbit holes in some of them.

Mikki

Thank you Pat

Casefile True Crime

Thank you Sara

Casefile True Crime

Thank you Karl.

Casefile True Crime

How long does it take you to record the audio for a show? I am often working a jigsaw puzzle while listening and I find myself for many minutes at a time with a puzzle piece in hand, not having moved due to the way you tell the story.

Laura Bagnell

Hi Athena. No not sure I've heard of that one either. I'll note it down.

Casefile True Crime

Loved the Watson episode. Great work on such an interesting matter. How do you decide which episodes you will include record of interviews etc? Is it based on access to this material? Or more where it's critical to the storyline?

Halley

Hi Kym. The Beaumonts yes. JFK and OJ unlikely. They have had a saturation of coverage and I'm not sure there's anything we would add.

Casefile True Crime

Sorry about that Patreon is crashing on me

Karl

Some of the cases take a toll for sure though.

Casefile True Crime

I tell everyone I know about Casefile

Karl

I tell everyone I know about Casefile

Karl

Your voice is an excellent choice for the show, authoritative yet energetic and just as curious as the rest of us

Pat Rolfes

Thanks forl continuing your great work on this podcast. Being from the UK originally (now in Los Angeles) I've particularly enjoyed the episodes on UK crime stories. Do you have plans to cover more UK cases?

Captain Flint

You're by far the best PodCast I've ever heard and the only one who could do it justice

Mikki

Have you ever thought about doing one on the rape and murder of 8year old Victoria Stafford in a Woodstock Ontario Canada?

Mikki

Good night Jane. Thanks for putting in a good word for us.

Casefile True Crime

I've made a note of it.

Casefile True Crime

It keeps the focus squarely on the case. The host of our style of show is irrelevant I believe. Im just there to tell you the story. Keeps the focus on the case. Plus I'm shy.

Casefile True Crime

I love hearing about all the cases from other parts of the world...very interesting...scary, but interesting and I love it

Pat Rolfes

WM3 would be very good. I'd love to hear your take on it. I don't have a question, really, but thank you for creating such an engrossing and thoroughly researched podcast!

Sara Moore

Thank you Jen. That's a tough question. I'm not sure I have changed. Maybe. But Nothing I've noticed. My mind is racing now trying to think.

Casefile True Crime

I like that you cover less known cases and ones outside the USA

Karl

Have you looked into the Brooke Wilberger case from Oregon ever?

Athena Wisotsky

Hi there - Kym from Brisbane - since listening to your podcasts I've realised that there are some crimes that really impact on a country and change it forever! The Falconio case and Beaumont children here in Australia, definitely the moors murders in the UK - probably JFK assassination and the OJ Simpson case in the US - do you plan on covering those pivotal cases in the future?

Kym McCauley

Thank you Emilie

Casefile True Crime

I have no idea. I often wonder that myself. Let's just say before the podcast I had leisure time. Now I don't :)

Casefile True Crime

I don't know if favourite is the right word. But one I'd love to dive into is the WM3 case. I know there is extensive coverage already. But given the amount of material from the police file and court that is available I'd love to just go into it with an open mind - and study everything for myself. Unfortunately I don't have the months it would likely take.

Casefile True Crime

Well it's time I said goodnight from the uk it's nearly 1am. Keep up the excellent work I keep telling all my work colleagues and friends about this amazing podcast x

Jane Hooley

Please look into "Pee Wee" Gaskins! It'll blow your mind!! Anyways, you're my favorite podcast, and I listen to a lot! Hailing from Fort Worth, TX.

Sean Keefe

Why have you decided to remain the anonymous host? A mystery in the mystery

Karl

Hello from Toronto (Canada)! Thank you for all your hard work. Of all the true crime podcasts I listen to, yours is my favourite. My question: what's the most unexpected way your work has changed you?

Jen N.

Ditto Emille

Brett_T

I'm not sure I've heard of that one.

Casefile True Crime

Yeah there has been a few. I don't recall specific cases but I know for sure someone has sent something in - but there's just nothing out there about it.

Casefile True Crime

I have great respect for the work the team at Casefile does! Keep up the great work!

Emilie Lorenzo Broderstad

I'd by lying if I said it didn't. Personally - music - some form of high intensity workout - sport - comedies

Casefile True Crime

WOW! Do y'all have 'regular' jobs as well? If so how do you squeeze it all in?

Pat Rolfes

What are some of the most favourite cases of yours that you have not covered on Casefile?

Ben Barnes

Hi Pat. thanks for listening and thanks for joining us.

Casefile True Crime

Hi Brett. Lovely part of the world.

Casefile True Crime

Countless. It's a full time job for sure. There's usually two people that work in a case. One lead researcher and writer plus an assist. Personally I've spent 8-12 hours a day for a week on cases before. Then there is the recording plus production side of things.

Casefile True Crime

Have you considered "Pee Wee" Gaskins? It's a very underreported story given the depth of depravity.

Sean Keefe

Have you had to drop a case idea due to the lack of access to source materials?

Karl

He used to be in Wakefield prison. Wakefield is where I live. Not a nice feeling

Jane Hooley

Yeah it's a hard one to explain. There have definitely been cases I thought I was going to cover but when I've looked into it more, my gut has just said "No". I'm not sure what it is about a case that says, "tell this story" but basically I just go with my gut.

Casefile True Crime

Does having to recap on such horrific crimes takes it toll on you and all the team? If so how do you cope

Jane Hooley

It's 6:47 in Iowa USA and I just wanted to say I LOVE the podcast...I listen everyday to and from work and have re listened to several

Pat Rolfes

Hi from once again, rainy Victoria BC.

Brett_T

How many hours of research go into an average episode?

Karl

Hi Sean. There are quite a lot on this list! It's just a matter of time.

Casefile True Crime

How do you decide on a case? Are there any cases you won't cover?

Megan

Hi Jane. Definitely. We have actually already covered Huntley back at the start. The Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman episode was number 8 I believe.

Casefile True Crime

So it's like 12.44am in U.K. So I only have 1 question. Will u be covering more UK crimes such as Harold Shipman? And Ian Huntley?

Jane Hooley

How many cases do you have on your list of "definitely going to do this one?"

Sean Keefe
