MARCH 1/2 Update: IWBTWR CHAPTER 3, Character Poll Winner, Animation Progress

Hey! Welcome to the March Update! It's been a very busy month so let me get straight to it!

Chapter 2 has been wrapped up with Jenny's Dyslexitard arc ending.

When Jenny's character was originally created, she was a go-lucky optimist who saw the good in everything. I saw this as a flaw in my story writing, but I never had the heart to change her fundamentally as a character.

As the story changed to become more socially conscious overtime, Jenny's main role in the story changed, and her personality had to adapt to these new changes in the story as well. She became more sad and cynical, she still had dreams, but the core of her character was gone now. This made me pretty upset because she did not resemble the character I made when I was 16 and struggling. I made her to be an optimist, to brighten up my day when I drew her. Now she might as well be a different character.

So I made a choice, to accept this new realistic Jenny as the main character of my story. She was written realistically and was a perfect conduit for the plot. However I also compromised with the old Jenny. Old Jenny now still exists, but haunts current Jenny as a ghost of Christmas past.

The same way Jenny misses her old self, is a reflection of me as an author missing my old character, but like life it moves on, and I understand that if old Jenny stayed as the cheery optimist main character, the other characters and the plot would suffer because of it.

The whole point for Jenny's arc was the journey to accept that she's grown up as a person and the old scars that she still held from her past can be healed from her accepting to who she is. I guess in a way it's also my journey as a writer to accept that the reason to why I made old Jenny doesn't exist in adult Peargor anymore, and that child Peargor had his own reason to making her at that period of time.

But now it's time to move onto the next chapter of IWBTWR

This chapter I'm hopping to up the stakes for the entire story, starting with fleshing out Zoey and her motivations as a character.

Zoey's pretty complicated because she represents a different toxic aspect of asian society, the theme I want to focus on is collectivism and confucian ideals. That the western perception for asian problems in asian society is sometimes misled and that there's actually a lot of nuance in the culture. Zoey's supposed to represent a different social class with her own unique responsibilities.

Zoey's role in the story will become clearer over time.

IWBTWR's color themes are also going to start to become increasingly more relevant to the story. I plan on introducing a proper antagonist to this chapter. Once I establish this persistent threat in the story, it's going to be much harder, as I've never really written a villain before!
