Forge Tattoo

Wondrous item (tattoo), rare (requires attunement)

The Forge Tattoo is a powerful arcane mark that signifies mastery over fire and metal. It etches itself in bold, swirling designs of deep fiery orange, telling tales of ancient forge rites. When illuminated by any light, the central emblem—a forge with flames bursting forth—seems to dance and flicker, mimicking the behavior of a real flame.

Tattoo Attunement. To attune to this item, you hold the needle to your skin where you want the tattoo to appear, pressing the needle there throughout the attunement process. When the attunement is complete, the needle turns into the ink that becomes the tattoo, which appears on the skin. If your attunement to the tattoo ends, the tattoo vanishes, and the needle reappears in your space.

Master Smith’s Insight. While the tattoo is on your skin, your expertise in metalwork is enhanced. You have advantage on all ability checks made using smith’s tools. Additionally, if you take a short rest and spend it focusing on a weapon or piece of armor, you can identify its properties, understand if it’s magical, and learn how to use them if applicable, without the need for the identify spell.

Smith’s Secret. While the tattoo adorns your skin, you gain the secret knowledge of mystical smiths. Using a set of smith's tools, for which you must be proficient, as part of a long rest, you can choose one non-magical weapon and imbue it with one of the following boons until the next dawn:

• Tempered Sharpness: The weapon's edges become supernaturally sharp. The weapon’s damage die increases by one size (e.g., from d6 to d8). If the weapon is already a d12, add an extra 1 damage instead.
• Unbreakable: The weapon becomes almost indestructible. It is immune to damage and cannot be broken by any non-magical means.
• Fiery Infusion: The weapon is imbued with the essence of a mystic forge. It deals an additional 1d4 fire damage on each hit.
• Harmonized Metal: The weapon becomes perfectly balanced, granting a +2 bonus to attack rolls.
• Bane Forging: The weapon becomes a bane to a particular type of enemy (choose one: undead, constructs, elementals, etc.). The weapon deals an additional 1d6 damage to the chosen enemy type.
