Update!

Hi everyone! I just want to let everyone know what's been going on with me this past week.

As you probably already know, last Thursday I was laid off for at least 8 weeks from my job due to the COVID-19 pandemic. My day job was in IT, specifically as a bench technician at a local MSP (managed service provider). My job was hands-on with computers day to day, and while I did do the occasional remote support for some of our clients, most of it was diagnosing and fixing computers that had come into the shop. I also had a small role in sales as well, as we maintained a modest retail space in our shop. Given the pandemic the store wasn't seeing a lot of traffic, and the decision was made to let me go for the time being. As of right now, I am no longer employed by my former company. They may hire me back in 7 weeks (7 weeks because I was self-isolating due to a cold last week before they laid me off, so the 8 weeks is retroactive to the beginning of last week), but the way this pandemic is playing out I kind of have my doubts.

Right now, my plan is to go on EI (Canadian unemployment) for the time being. I do want to see if they will hire me back, but being in such limbo is kind of a awkward situation. I've been taking a look at my expenses and have been cutting back in superfluous areas. As an example, I am in the process of moving my website hosting from Dreamhost to my own server, as that will save me around $40/month.

The good news is that I can properly stay home in the meantime. I don't need to go out except for essentials, and that also means I can dedicate more time to music and photography! I'm also thinking about streaming on Twitch more, and have done a couple of streams over the weekend. We'll see! Right now I have the rest of my VancouFur photos to edit and upload. They're almost done so expect to see those in the next little bit.
