Ruff and Tumble

Dear Insane Children,

Has everyone got their Halloween costumes ready!? What are you going as this year? I've just purchased the elements required for mine and will join Font Lord during the next livestream where mine and his will be revealed. Any guesses at what we'll be?

Next week's stream is on October 31st @ 6PM PST and we'll have Roger Jackson (voice of the Cheshire Cat, Mojo-Jojo, and Scream's Ghostface - to name a few) joining us!

Hit THIS LINK to set a reminder over on YouTube. While there, make sure you're subscribed and that you also click Like on a few of my videos - apparently that helps the YouTube algorithm collect more clicks for the click farm. Click, click, click.

During the Livestream yesterday we did an Artist Interview with Chris Vrenna. He talked with us about his experience working with Nine Inch Nails, Manson, making music for Alice, and life these days as a college professor.

If you missed it, hit THIS LINK and give it a watch right now!

We also reviewed new art from Joey such as the card guard image posted above. One of the ideas we discussed in relation to that picture is having the faces of the guards represent Alice's subconscious fear of adult men. I was thinking it would be really interesting to model the faces of a collection of the "actual" men (villains) in Alice's life and then have those placed under the fabric of the Card Guard masks. They might swap around, shout variations of snippets of dialog Alice overheard from those men, etc.

What are your thoughts on this?

Joey also sent along the "Dog Knight" who looks suspiciously similar to Lulu! Awww... Lulu would never assist a nightmare doll in attacking Alice. She'd chew that doll's head right off!

Joey's also done a rendering of the "Jumping Fish" - pretty sure we had a different name for these guys in the games... but it's escaping me at the moment. Anyone remember?

We had a look at Alex's WIP piece for the Alice poster in the "red" series. Be sure to check out the stream so you can see all 4 stages he presented. This image is going to be fantastic - and we will, of course, add it to the series we're releasing here on Patreon.

A few additional revisions by Joey here - suggesting that the "rat pin cushion" doesn't have to be an actual, live rat... but perhaps some sort of rat doll. Being an actual (year of the) Rat myself, I guess I just don't like seeing the poor guys abused. Eek!

Rabbits

Lastly, there were a TON of comments on the White Rabbit Plush prototype. The general consensus being "that's wrong." And your feedback is heard loud and clear. I do hope everyone will please keep in mind that this is a constructive crowd design process - very rarely do original creative endeavors move forward without a few missteps. We've learned a ton already in this process. And there are two new factories working on prototypes with instructions guided by your feedback. We should see new prototypes in about 2 weeks.

Oh! Rabbits! Forgot to mention in the last few posts, those Little White Rabbit Dolls are going out for free with each and every order over at Mysterious...

So if you were looking to get your hands on one of these little guys, head over and grab something from the shop. You can do that via THIS LINK.

We'll throw these in with all orders while supplies last - and I ordered ~1000 of them... so that should be for a little while? Don't be late!

Comments

I love the card guards they are classic.

Pretty sure the ‘jumping fish’ were named ‘ice snarks’ or something similar in Madness Returns.

Another suggestion maybe after you kill the doll rider and set the dog free. You can occasionally find squeaky toys that are throwable items that summon the dog.

Love the feisty Lulu doggy knight, the fish beasts were snarks I believe. I really love the look of these card guards, it's really creepy to see the skin over the bones that way. I think the rat being in a doll form is a good idea, I too am a year of the rat child. I actually just got two new rat babies today, gotta figure out names for the both of them. Looking forward to the next stream, the last one was great :).

I do like the dog knight, however it contradicts my impression of Lulu. obviously, she is a good girl 💗

QUESTION: when giving a voice to a character, you are giving him a personality, even if you want it or not, do Cheshire have an unexpected personality or it was fully pre-made?

I love the Lulu cameo idea!! Especially when he runs and opens new areas! SUGGESTION Maybe after defeat and he runs away have him get saddled a couple different times. Cut scene to him getting caught again and having to defeat another one of these enemies to help our canine friend. Poor Lulu :(

Everything looks good and very interesting, but ughhhhhh jumping fish, this guys was annoying Good work btw!

Cool news!

Maybe you should include centaurs as an enemy too since that's what Alice thought she saw the night if the fire.

I love the bat doll design and the rat pin cushion! I've got a question about chaos necklaces from previous pledges though. I pledged for a necklace during August when the chaos coin stuff was happening. I know you said necklaces were delayed due to stock and Chinese holidays, but do you have an eta for the necklaces? Thanks!

FEEDBACK on Alex's Alice: As she's holding the knife in her right hand, I think the blood splash should be on her right cheek.

Make Nine Inch Nails great again

Also, Wouldn't the plush rabbit be better if it had more of a hairy texture? Kind of like the itty bitty rabbits your throwing into purchases? It looks very velvety to me and I'm not sure if the Victorian Era made toys so smooth. Figured they used some kind of fuzz or real fur for their toys.

QUESTION AND SUGGESTION: Will we be seeing Wonderland before it's corrupted or the characters as they first were? If not. I had a idea that when we start the game what if it's very similar to the American Mcgee's Alice, but instead of seeing how the events of the fire take place, it's in Alice sleep where she's enjoying her tea party? Narrative: Alice is enjoying tea with her friends, Hatter, March Hare and Dormouse. All is merry and even Cheshire shows up to watch them enjoy their tea. "I got one! Why is a raven like a writing desk!?" Asks Hatter. Alice, pondering this question doesn't realize that a fire suddenly appears, small and not much of a danger, yet Hatter and March Hare panic. "Oh dear oh dear!" Yells hatter trying to put it out with tea. "We must save Alice!" March Hare exclaims while Alice begins to feel the panic rise in her body. Why did this little fire scare her? She could smell the smoke. "Wake up Alice! Wake up!" Hatter grabs a hold of her when the tea doesn't put out the fire and begins to shake her. Everything suddenly goes dark. (Alice's Iconic scream from when she jumps out the window echos in the darkness) After a few moments we hear the sound of metal, people talking, we see through Alice eyes, it's blurry and the voices are hard to make out but it's definitely a hospital. The eyes repeatedly close and open showing different scenes on what was happening and people trying to communicate with her. Finally she closes her eyes one more time, and the next moment Alice is standing in what appears to be London. (Denial stage.) And so the game begins!

I agree that the idea for the card guards being Alice's fear of men is a good one. But I don't feel like Every card guard should have the faces of men, assuming that if you did go through with it, every card would have a face. I feel like only some should have faces. It should be random which ones have faces and when. That way, it's like Alice is having sporadic hallucinations

I like the idea of real faces beneath the card guards, but for me they do look still to "broken". We had that in the last stream, that in AMA the guards weren't broken but are in asylum. Maybe there is a middleway, like the card guards emerging from actual cards to Alice enemies. Like stitched up and dirty but the faces of the men are more visible, that would fit from the timeline. I love the idea, setting a dog free, cuties shouldn't be dragged to war, especially not against Alice.

Love the alice picture by Alex. Hope it's added to the mini print collection

Suggestion maybe more powerful enemies also have chaos stars on them. That when leading up to a powerful attack will glow as a warning. If the star is struck It'll stun and be a critical hit. When a chaos star enemy is killed as well Alice abhors silver of mercury into a frame of her star. Showing shes taking control of the chaos of her life making it her own. Each arrow of the star can represent a level up of abilities. So at the beginning itll be an empty frame. By the end she'll have her iconic necklace.

I think they were call snarks? Or ice snarks?
