Strife and Discord (and a little Chaos)
Added 2018-08-21 02:36:33 +0000 UTC
Dear Insane Children,
Today's post is going to be all about "strife and discord" but in a gonad way!
First up, Omri sends along The Circus Dress. And if the reaction over on Instagram, where I previewed a little snippet of this yesterday, is anything to go by this dress is going to cause a fair bit of strife...
I don’t mean to be, well, mean, but I really don’t like this 😬😬😬😬
The only dress I've seen from Omri that I completely hate. It's not even the dress itself (can't see it all in this pic), but the hair...
So disappointing. Sigh. 🤡
But it wasn't all negative... In fact, most comments were positive...
Wow, new hairstyle! Very interesting!!!
IT S AMAZINGG
Wow!! 😲💀🤡🔪
This is adorable! I can't wait to see the rest.
And I have to repeat, "If you aren't failing you aren't trying." One of the things (I think I've mentioned this before) I like about what Omri's doing is that he's exploring. He's got a really solid map of the 'known territory' and he's poking around the edges of it in all directions to see where else we can go.
Exploration like this is CRITICAL. It's how we ended up with, to name a few examples, the amazing 'hair tech' in AMR; how we got the 'butterfly cloud' when she jumped; hell, it's how we even got the first game green-lit.
Of this new dress Omri says:
So i had this design stuck in my head for a while, I CAN turn this design lighter in spirit if we want it to look less creepy but i thought about like, she gets into the Tweedle's circus, she has fun, things turn dark and they force her to participate in some kind of way.
She CAN sing, i know Susie Bran can sing.
So this is literally a costume, i can turn it darker/lighter and her makeup will totally change.
I really wonder what the fans will say on this.
Well, fans, that's your cue... what will you say? Leave your feedback, QUESTIONS, and SUGGESTIONS in the comments below.
Do keep in mind that nothing is set in stone. We're creating a LOT of content but none of this is guaranteed to make it into the game. Think of what we're doing right now as mapping the possibilities. Some we'll embrace, some we'll discard.
DISCORD!
We have set up a Discord Server and linked it to Patreon. Discord is a chat app (like Skype but 10000x better) which you can access via your phone, web browser, or desktop client. Our server has lots of different channels in which we can discuss game design, story, weapons, management of the wiki, and much more.
Patreon has a useful Help Article on Discord you might check out.
But in a nutshell, firstly, you need an actual Discord account (they're free to set up). Then simply go to your Patreon/Account settings page and link the two. This should also fix the issue for the people who weren't auto joined into our Discord, so please check out your account settings page if this is you.
We'll work to integrate this with our live streams as well - which might allow us to do things like a Patron chat overlay and hosting guests for voice interviews and chats. Other ideas? Share those in the comments!
I did send out a link to a SurveyMonkey Page yesterday which we're using to interview those who might like to help with Discord and our Wiki. Thing is, I stupidly forgot to include the bit where I ask the name/email address of the person taking the survey. Doh! That means the first 4 people who took the survey did so without entering any info we could use to contact them. This would have happened in the first hour of the survey being live. If you suspect you are one of those people please contact us via DM here on Patreon (or try to take the survey again?).
CHAOS!
Quick update on the Chaos Coin Set... This morning we received the final piece of the set, The Collector Card.

This is - for the first time in the history of The Universe - the entire Chaos Coin Set all together in one place! I swear I heard a faint humming of magik power filling my studio once all these pieces were brought together. Good thing I was wearing my brown pants.
As you can see the full set contains the following:
- Elegant Logo Box with Shiny Magic Silver(tm) Chaos Symbol
- Nifty black velvet Chaos Containment Bag
- Level 50 Envy Inducing Frame of Holding
- Double-sided Collector Card (1 per set)
- The Chaos Coin (insert "ahhhhhhhhh..." sound effect)
I dunno... are you sure you should really get all this for just $35?! Martin? What have we done???
Hehe. Anyway, these are all the pieces, DONE. All this will be ready to ship next month after we've hit our goal and collected your shipping info. Super!
Speaking of rewards...
REWARD YOURSELF
Thank you, for the feedback yesterday on the next Reward setup. Looks like we'll set the amount at $10 - that means anyone at $10 or more when we hit the next Goal will automatically receive Embroidery Patch Set #2 (plus the Patron-exclusive patch), yes they're shipped worldwide and yes there's no extra shipping charge. Don't know yet what Patron Count we'll set the reward to trigger at but we'll do our best to make it relatively easy... depends largely on where the count is come end of August.

I like the idea of a dark circus themed outfit for Alice, but the bottom of the dress and hair really doesn’t sit well with me.
2018-08-25 17:59:06 +0000 UTC
I love the colors picked for the tweedles. While I don't necessarily mind the greens added to her outfit, the shape is just a bit too wonky. I am not a fan of the wig. However, I could see her with french braids, and a jester collar. I am mostly concerned about the bottom part of the outfit. Otherwise, its alright. Definitely take away the wig though.
2018-08-24 15:07:54 +0000 UTC
I like the dark side so, I wish it'll go even darker and even more weird. I'm not sure about the bottom part, it may be too much contrast with the top. Why not to give her a funny skirt as well? May be something like dirty, ripped assimetrical petticoat? It's a circus so it can go wild, right? )
2018-08-24 02:44:43 +0000 UTC
I like the colors of circus dress. Since XIIIth Century, green (and yellow) has been the color(s) of the Devil. That's part why I also loved the bargaining dress as it was and feel it is misplaced as King of planets suit.
Make Nine Inch Nails great again
2018-08-23 04:25:17 +0000 UTC
ha! I see a lot of folk not liking the hair. Want to have some serious fun? Make her head larger. Seriously? Yes. Seriously. Circus' are very over the top, larger than life and having her go "big head mode" (along with a lot of the residents of said Circus" makes for a very imposing, disturbing, and delightfully macabre style. It feels like her hairstyle is a way to emulate the classic clown Fro', though the actual look doesn't quite fit it. Want to make her look harlequin-esque ? make her bald with a funky jingle bell hat on it... Or give her the option of wearing a reversible mask that is the "comedy and tragedy" mask and depending on which one she uses, it has a varied effect on her abilities... or how the world of the circus itself looks.

I think the dress is alright, the bottom looks a little weird and maybe the colors but i kinda like it. It's one that the longer you look the more it doesn't seem as bad. I always love the darker themes but i think maybe bright could work for this outfit.

Nope.
2018-08-23 01:33:55 +0000 UTC
I don't really like the hairdue. Like Lae said, maybe high pigtails with some blood at the ends.. and maybe a bang to go along with it
2018-08-22 18:49:46 +0000 UTC
love the idea but not the outfit
2018-08-22 16:35:00 +0000 UTC
Love the outfit for the theme, but not a fan of the hairdo. Perhaps a ponytail or pigtails, slightly bloodied at the end? Just an idea. :)
2018-08-22 14:33:14 +0000 UTC
I'm echoing and agreeing with the sentiment that I love the idea of a circus theme, and exploring that, but I don't feel that outfit is working or the hairstyle, and it doesn't feel as creepy or unsettling as this theme could potentially be, if that's the desired direction with it.
2018-08-22 10:39:51 +0000 UTC
This could be lots cuter...not a fan really.
2018-08-22 09:41:37 +0000 UTC
First, I love that all of the Alice team is exploring new ideas artistically! I think that is super cool and important and I 100% support that. However, I am not loving Alice's Circus outfit.
2018-08-22 05:25:33 +0000 UTC
You could keep the original hair and darken the colors of the dress, I think a darker dress would fit the mood just fine
2018-08-22 02:37:00 +0000 UTC
Lovin' the dress, but not really diggin' the major change in hair. I'm just a lover of the simple straight hair she's always had in her previous games. It helps make her HER, in my opinion, if that makes any sense. Maybe a more simple change in hair style would be good. A small side braid, a ponytail. Nothing too major, the dresses are already wonderfully bizarre, a serious change in her hair feels just a tad overboard.
At the end of the day though, I'm just excited to play this game, crazy hair or no. Keep up the wonderful work, you guys! 😁
2018-08-21 23:29:15 +0000 UTC
I love the mask idea!
2018-08-21 22:54:16 +0000 UTC
i like the idea of a circus. If she is going to parfticipate, and potentially "wrangle" animals, having the thematic whip to be ringmaster would be good. Since you have her in a sort of harlequin outfit, possibly a macabre puppet show or maybe having her "volunteered" in a magic act. I imagine having her be placed in the typical "magic box" and then watch her tumble down the ol rabbit hole while inside it..dodging swords thrust out of no where, giant saw blades rifling across the screen, skewers of rapiers jabbing towards her and so on, until she gets to the end and "safely" gets out of the box unharmed.. TADA!.
.
Sadly, I am NOT thrilled with the outfit. Mostly because flipped upside down it looks like some black and yellow super girl got shoved into a toilet... or a large goblet. Howe does this merge with the environment? how does it feel interesting and of value ?When I think of the level design aesthetic, if it has the general properties of the smaller shot of tweedle's then it looks like very strong dark visceral tones with high contrast and splashes of color, but overall lends towards a dark sinister tone. If that is the case, striking a balance so Alice looks like she belongs in that physical space (based on the lighting) but also is a strong enough contrast to the environment so the player can see her and not "lose" her in the action, or feel like they can't judge her positioning well with platforming.
I almost would suggest sitting back and watching the old series from HBO, Karnivale. It has a lot of interesting aesthetic and thematic tones to it, so you might feel "inspired".
What does the ciscus mean psychologically? or metaphorically? I often looked it as something of a "come and see the grand guignol of what being an adult is like! see the wonders we have found! watch as we perform feats no child can do! as we master even the fiercest of beasts!". Looking at the circus from that stance it starts as a potentially twisted but colorful "this is how great it is to be a grown up" and slowly as it transitions through gameplay, we see not only the "reality" of the characters in the circus but how NOT happy they are to be there performing under the tyrannical ringmasters(i.e. not happy with their place as an adult in life, job, family, government). You could do this as subtle, or broad strokes as you like, but with that would also potentially give alice an outfit that can transition too based how how this would influence her during the journey. Would she start out with a very 'black and white' style to clothing and transition into something more extreme? would it shift to lighter, subtle (shades of grey) tones as she understands the concepts of extremes and moderation? etc.
Like I said, love the potential with the circus, asnd what the outfit could potentially reflect in her journey within it.

SUGGESTIONS and opinions: I adore circus/carnival themed stuff, and I think a circus level would be amazing in the new game, especially if Alice had to perform. However, I'm not a huge fan of this outfit. First off, I like the idea of a more unique hairstyle/wig in the outfit, but this wig feels too 'old' for Alice (not too mature, just drab, it's hard to describe). And I think making it look a little more disheveled (which goes for the whole outfit) could help. And with the dress, one of my biggest issues is the colors. I think the color pallete needs to be simplified (less colors, more contrast, like red, black, and white like another person suggested) or go really crazy (lots of colors) and be more saturated, as I think it would feel more circus-like. And I think the dress could look better with more layers, poofiness, or perhaps more asymmetry. I think it needs to feel more chaotic, since to me that represents the idea of a circus show. Anyway, I don't hate the idea, I just feel like this dress might not be quite there yet. Kudos to Omri, though, for exploring different ideas and possibilities. It's my favorite part of the process to watch. :)

I love the idea of a circus theme! I like the colours used in the dress, reds, blacks, golds but I'm not fussed on how it's presented, it feels Elizabethan. Instead perhaps red/gold corset dress with striped stockings? the hair, maybe pigtails or twin plaits with red ribbons and skulls in the bows? or even a hat such as a mini top hat with red ribbon flowing from it and a small skull.
2018-08-21 20:20:36 +0000 UTC
I like the idea of a creepy circus theme but the dress doesn't quite convince me, especially the wig. I think it needs more "creepyness" somehow... I'm not good with outfits so I don't really know what to SUGGEST(ION)(?) but my thought is the colors should just be red, white and black mmm with some yellow? Idk ... And/or maybe some blood stains and making it more tattered will help oh and definitely keeping her natural hair but maybe reddish with some decorations? OR maybe some pigtails!? Ye...
I would absolutely LOVE to hear Alice sing!
2018-08-21 20:09:08 +0000 UTC
I'm not fond of the outfit. It's not very appealing. More like appalling .😂 I was thinking though the tweedles wouldn't put her in something pretty anyway. So I guess it suits the theme. A clown dress would be cute with pigtails.
2018-08-21 19:52:30 +0000 UTC
Suggestion.
The dress doesn't speak to me either, it simply falls out of the atmosphere that Alice has, otherwise said the dress is not creepy enough and the enslaved idea is non-existent. My suggestion, if you want to stick with the clown dress, make it mote tattered, more abusive and maybe add something that makes it apparent that there is force/enslavement involved. Make it dark, so to say, right now she just looks like shes playing dress up.
That said, the artist has an INCREDIBLE eye for detail and has a great talent to make each dress coherend
2018-08-21 19:27:11 +0000 UTC
Oh and I would love to hear Alice sing!
2018-08-21 19:06:54 +0000 UTC
Love that there will be a circus theme but do not like this at all. Doesn't fit. I feel there's so many more cool creepy things that could be done with this theme. When I first saw the sneak peek on Instagram it made me think of the Tim Burton queen of hearts. Yikes! Please do not let this design stay!
2018-08-21 19:05:29 +0000 UTC
Too bad there is no whip, it would go very well with this outfit that is reminiscent of a tamer tamer in a circus. Wonderful in any case !
2018-08-21 18:41:57 +0000 UTC
I second the tutu idea!
2018-08-21 18:14:18 +0000 UTC
I love the idea and actually the hair but the dress definitely needs some tweaking, especially the lower half.
2018-08-21 18:13:22 +0000 UTC
I like it because it pleads this old century vibe, which is actually accurate with the universe of Alice Madness.
2018-08-21 17:17:42 +0000 UTC
I like the circus dress and I love the idea, but the hair/wig doesn't really say "Alice" to be- but then again, that could be the point; maybe she wants to lose herself in the fun of the circus for a while and then she realises she's over her head.
I'm wondering if something along the lines of a jester's hat, or her hair in pigtails would work, but then it's sorta edging towards Harley Quinn.
Maybe some clown-esque makeup would accentuate things a little as well.
I'm actually reminded of this old Pinocchio cartoon, "emperor of the night" or something, where Pinocchio has this big dream/ dance number where he seems to get what he wants and then it turns sour.
As always I'm enamoured with the new developments and can't wait to see the finished product, and the Chaos Coin.

Question/Suggestions: Understand the hair (more aligned with clown motif) but don't 'like' it. How about Harlequin (half and half) for the dress...could make one side edgier the other less so to show the conflict going on both within and without...also make clashing colors that would give the viewer a 'fingernails on chalkboard' reaction. I think singing is okay; but how about while on the high wire or trapeze - aerial battles would be interesting while having to travers the 3 rings of the circus/her psyche. Just some thoughts....I very much liked the 1st patches, and the license proposal booklet art, as well as the dresses so far - with the few comments on them I've made...the coins look great, impatient for there arrival!
2018-08-21 16:46:14 +0000 UTC
I am absolutely in love with this concept! I like the idea of a wig that’s fits into the circus theme a little more than Alice’s natural hair even if this one isn’t quite right. One SUGGESTION I have, what if this outfit is a kind of metaphor for Alice hiding from herself, thus the wig and costume and maybe performing in the circus?

2018-08-21 16:25:28 +0000 UTC
I think the outfit might look better as a romper or a full blown jumpsuit. That being said, the colors are great! Might it be too much to ask if the colors darken throughout the level as things begin to go south? As far as the hair is concerned.. I enjoy seeing a different style atop her head but if the theme is “vintage clown” I believe that a short to medium length 20’s flapper hairstyle could be fitting. If she is forced to perform and possibly sing, I’m thinking hints of a more burlesque style could really revitalize this outfit.
2018-08-21 15:55:28 +0000 UTC
I love the dress design, but:
SUGGESTION I don't think it should be a dress at all. It would look hundreds times better without the skirt, but as a body suit or something. Just like circus members wear.
Otherwise, Omri, poke poke poke! There is no point in doing boring designs. Looking forward to more!
2018-08-21 15:40:42 +0000 UTC
im in love with the outfit colours but i have to agree the hair is...distracting. what about curly hair? a regular short cut? or something more based around a vintage clown look besides just the colour choice

2018-08-21 15:02:59 +0000 UTC
I agree with previous comments that I think this dress would look nicer in a blue/white/red or black/white/red colour scheme. Also maybe keep Alice's hair dark or maybe make it a really bright colour would be nice.
2018-08-21 14:55:56 +0000 UTC
SUGGESTION: Maybe the Tweedles could force her to perform something involving fire, like walking on a fire rope, or jumping through rings of fire. Something that would make her really reluctant of doing it.

I like the style of dress but not the colours ,I think red ,Black and white like the twins outfits would be better and ballet style pumps would fit with the outfit rather than long buckled up boots which look quite modern . Hate the style and colour of her hair, dark colouered half up ,half down lose ringlets would be more in keeping with her age. The circus should definitely be scary. Love the Chaos coin set.
2018-08-21 13:55:04 +0000 UTC
The dress is just strange, different, and chaotic enough that I actually really enjoy it. It's unpleasant in all the right ways, and I like the combination of what Alice would vs wouldn't wear. Perhaps it'd be worth playing around with wig color - perhaps a streak (white, black, etc) or a different color design. I think Alice could pull off (more) face paint with this design as well - making it a little more clown and a little less madame. Perhaps a chaos symbol on her forehead, or around her eyes as face paint. I think heart lipstick could be pulled off here, too, and if any design were ever going to feature her with a single color contact, this would be it. There's a grace in its "beautiful ugly" subtlety, but I think given the sheer concept, it could be pushed even further. Great continued conceptualizing, Omri!
2018-08-21 13:35:28 +0000 UTC
YES to singing Alice! And I actually like the dress. The wig is terrible and I dislike the makeup, but I like the dress. It needs a bit of work, but the general concept is nice. I'm very passionate about circus aesthetic and this could be a lot more creepy and twisted in my opinion.

I like parts of the dress (the patterning and the bodice) and love that Omri isn't scared to try different stuff. The wig is just nasty, looks like a bad 80's do. Maybe black and red, but a vibrant red, uneven stripes with a wild backcombed type style? The hat is cute, but needs to be more noticeable, maybe taller so it's a bit like the hatters hat? Oh and go dark, the circus should definitely be scary as hell and so should her outfit.

I don’t hate nor like it. I’m a bit split in between, which is just the feel the dress seems to exhale. There looks to be two sides of the dress.
The top half looks like tweedles are trying to make a fool of her, which plays in the whole theme of them forcing her to play a part in their circus and do a ton of ridicolous (and horrific) things. And a portion of their fun goes into dressing her up in this clownish-like costume.
Whilst the other part actually looks like something she would wear; the skirt, boots and leggings (and maybe the knife aswell). It could be of her choice and therefor her way of standing her ground, and not letting the Tweedles play with her altogether.
Even if the dress wouldn’t play a part in this, I still feel like the stort elements could make sense considering the circus theme. Growing up, feeling small and insignificant, many have this fear of being made fun of, how up or down the scale it may be. In the circus there are a lot of ridicolous elements playing a part in the making fun of thing, which taken to extremes could be something truly horrendous altogether.

I'm all for a circus style dress if done right. Not this.

I like the dress, hate the hair. It looks more like it belongs to a medieval circus than a Victorian era one. Also, I linked my patreon with my discord but I still wasn't added to your server.

There's potential in the new dress! A 13 year old girl imagining a circus seems believable to me, the question is how to fight it in to the story. Not sure how I feel about Alice singing, seems out of character in the 'not quite right' way. I can imagine the Tweedles being a nuisance like in Disneys original Alice cartoon, just with a darker twist, pestering her into being in their show as in involuntary volunteer for magic tricks (maybe they do tricks like 'saw the lady in half', pull flowers out of her sleeves, etc).
The whole circus setup do also have potential for a lot Victorian scariness.
For the actual dress, I'm don't fancy the hair. Someone here posted a picture with two hair buns, which I really like. I love the colourscheme and I like the dress. There's something unorganic about the shape of the corset, which I think fits in with the whole "somethings not right" atmosphere. Corset were used to force the waist into a specific, in this case very unnatural, shape, and isn't that sort of what her therapists (at least Bumby) tries to do?
I'm also reminded of something my mother told me as a kid. She told me about some paintings, I don't remember if it was crying children or sad clowns, but she wouldn't have them in the house, because then the house would burn down (and that was why the clowns/children looked sad).
I did the survey monkey and I'm pretty sure there was an option to put in email and such at the time. If not, I send you an email about my interest in it (:
2018-08-21 08:52:13 +0000 UTC
I really like the side buns hair you did! It looks awesome.
2018-08-21 08:32:22 +0000 UTC
The skirt and leggings fall a little out of theme on the dress. It's certainly an interesting way once the forced participation starts, like a transition from audience to circus freak. Perhaps she could be humming some disturbing and creepy tunes as well during the time she is wearing this dress, to further drill down she is falling to madness.
2018-08-21 08:23:29 +0000 UTC
Rhiannon has a few twists of the dress that i like. Clowns back then were not an over the top like they are now. The simple dots are fine. The hair not so much, the hat is good. The corset looks wrong which maybe is why its not well recieved. The petty coat style in rhiannons post looks better. I like the goth boots.
2018-08-21 07:33:22 +0000 UTC
I cannot say I love outfit overall. I like the top but the skirt needs more work. The wig reminds me 50s - 60s hairstyles (Jackie Kennedy for example) which I personally don't like. And the hat looks very odd on her wig - it is very small and can be easily lost for viewer. This outfit needs more madness, for now it looks like some fashion designer made a model for autumn show.
2018-08-21 07:17:26 +0000 UTC
I like this dress and the wig idea
SUGGESTION:
OFF mode:
- the hair/wig color could be vivid (bubble gum pink for instance)
- I would be happy if the colors of the clown dress were purple, lime green and sky blue
- the skirt could have fluffy shimmery pompons like they are made of sparkle organza fabric to make the look more childish and...well...magical
- boots could be shorter (ankle high)
- the stockings could have some pattern (flamingo)
ON mode:
- all the colors are inverted
- pieces of shattered glass replace pompons
- the wig is torn and covered with ash, Alice's natural hair is sticking out of it like a rose spikes
- the flamingo stockings pattern is replaced with a bird skulls pattern
- the "make up" is horribly smudged like the rotten tomatoes were thrown at Alice's face
- the hat is replaced with bird skull and the wig looks like a nest
I'm pretty sure I butchered English language with this comment ¯ \ _ (ツ) _ / ¯

I truly hate the whole outfit this time (a part from the boots). If Alice is going to look like a clown, why can't she look creepy? I mean she is going through a psychological crisis, why not reflect it in her outfit?

I don't like the middle part of the circus dress, just around the hips it kinda looks unnatural. Maybe change it to some sorta corset or something. The hair looks a biiiit old...just saying like my grandma would wanna see when she is getting out from the hair salon XD

SUGGESTION for the circus dress. I think a tutu would better suit a young ‘clown’ Alice. Maybe a makeup change (check out Amanda Palmer from the Dresden dolls, particularly her eyebrows 😉)And for the performance I would say more of a ‘death defying’ stunt like a tight rope or her being strapped down to a wheel while the tweedles throws knives at her. Just an idea :)

I really don't like the hair. The dress is nice. But the hair! It just doesn't fit at all.
2018-08-21 06:05:33 +0000 UTC
she needs more makeup maybe make it a little rough, because she is going through a lot. I think her outfit needs to be bright. I know these games are darker, but this outfit should be bright, she needs to stand out in it. Just a thought. I honestly hate the way it looks now. I like the little hat, but maybe make it a tiny bit bigger or change it to a bow. I'm not a fan of how her hair is styled at all. I like the idea of it being up, just not like that.
2018-08-21 06:02:22 +0000 UTC
I really dislike the wig concept, but the general look of the dress is wonderful. I think depending on the level a more whimsical color scheme would be lovely; maybe even a more black/white Pierrot type look?

I had some ideas on the dress, maybe you'll like it :) No pressure though. I think the dress looks great regardless. Im really digging the colour scheme

I personally am okay with the dress, but hair is a miss...
Singing Alice, on the other hand, is fantastic idea!!! Would love to hear that!

Honestly, I really love this new outfit and for her to be a performer I would expect a wig or different hair. As for people who take issue with it, I guess be glad there are multiple dresses like the first game to enjoy. People don't have to love every single dress, I imagine that you can swap dresses like in Madness Returns once you beat it and go through again. All I know is I love it and love the variety. The chaos coin set up etc all looks just beautiful.
2018-08-21 05:21:39 +0000 UTC
I'm IN LOVE with the top half of the outfit. the shape, the colors, the ruffle neck, EVERYTHING. The skirt doesn't go though.

My instagram comment got featured in the post lol I’m mildly embarrassed but now that I’ve seen the whole picture, I can say it’s an interesting base idea (a circus-inspired outfit) but I just don’t like the execution of it. The hair looks more like it belongs in Hairspray than Alice. The big hips look a little goofy. The colors are not my cup of tea, but that’s not a big deal. I agree with some other Patrons who have suggested maybe pigtails (retaining Alice’s hair color and length), and a similar harlequin style (ie. diamonds, red/white/black color scheme) but a with different shape to the dress. I think the shades of green are what’s really throwing me off, it just doesn’t look like it belongs. I’m in love with Omri’s other designs, however!! Please don’t take it personally :) Also SINGING ALICE! I would love to hear more of Chris Vrenna’s amazing music, and to have Alice sing would be incredible.

I think a circus theme would be fantastic and is something I never realized was missing from an Alice game all along, but not like this. The hair is the worst part for me, not that I'm opposed to Alice donning different hair styles. It's just so cheesy. Now, I'm regretting not spending more of my time practicing my art because I have a concept in mind I'd love to render, but I couldn't do it justice just yet. Which comes to a...
SUGGESTION: I'm thinking more of a ringleader suit outfit with a slightly more dignified shape, cool colors like cobalt, royal purple, navy and maroon for contrast, white trim and big buttons. 'Gloves' that are actually just fading and scuffed paint up Alice's arms. Maybe some ruffles too. Something like Mad Moxxi (How fitting a character for a design reference!) from Borderlands, but less revealing and with a more appropriate amount of cleavage, that is to say, none. I imagine this outfit to be somewhat distressed-looking in the normal mode and nightmarish in chaos mode. Scary clown makeup?
SUGGESTION: With my idea for a ringleader-type outfit, maybe the plot of a circus-themed level could be that Alice is suck(er)ed into performing in it as a singer/dancer/choreographer/announcer which would be an opportunity for her learn to handle pressure and responsibility, something psychologically traumatized people tend to avoid or neglect. Not sure how that could work into the stages of grief. Maybe as part of the relatively newly defined Testing phase? I'd kinda like to see sections of the game that are somewhat like short, sidebar stories mainly for character development.
Also, YES PLEASE let Alice sing!

I dont care for the dress, but hate the hair. and this is the first time I felt so strongly about any of them! usually I love them. I Agree with Stephanie, knowing the role may help. then have the clothing fit the role (Lion Tamer, High wire etc..) but interesting to see new ideas
2018-08-21 04:43:12 +0000 UTC
I love the circus idea! And the singing!!
SUGGESTION: Maybe if we figure out what specific role she has in the circus, it would help zone in on what type of outfit design to go for. Like an acrobat, a juggler, a clown, etc. The top part of the outfit seems clownish to me (my favorite parts are the makeup and the neck piece) but I feel like the outfit could go more "clown" as a whole if that's what she is. Like more poofy.

Definitely a no from me on this dress. Not sure if it is because the circus theme doesn't fit in my mind for Alice or that this particular dress doesn't represent it properly. A rework needed in my opinion.
Also unrelated QUESTION: If I go up to $75 for Patreon, do I get to choose the artwork I want? If it is a monthly cycle then what is August's art print?
2018-08-21 03:32:16 +0000 UTC
Agree that this isn't the best costume submitted by Omri and that is in no way a criticism of him as he is nailing things so far. I'd like to see more of a feminine adaptation of the tweedle costumes. Bold lines and for the hair maybe pigtails? Maybe even a harlequin style masquerade mask? Something like this style but in whites and reds? https://goo.gl/images/vQYxKh
Food for thought is the most delicious.

I've said before: This is a democratic dictatorship. Opinions will be read and taken into consideration but that doesn't mean we'll have 'majority rule' (unless the majority is in alignment with The Way). Still, voices need a place. Your voice - and this opinion you've stated - is here, along with everyone else's :) I think what's important (critical in fact) is that we don't make it about 'them' 'us' etc. There's a larger tribe and an overarching goal. We need to keep that in mind. Perhaps, with that in mind, I should not have highlighted the positive/negative Instagram comments in the way I did... which I thought was fun... but perhaps leads to the taking of sides? Anyway... let's live and learn ;)

I’m going to have to say no to this one. I love circus themes, but it looks more like she’s wearing a Christmas sweater. Also not a fan of the hair.
2018-08-21 03:09:10 +0000 UTC
I also think a huge issue is that it almost appears she is lacking eyebrows
2018-08-21 02:58:03 +0000 UTC
SUGGESTION: So how about exploring the possibility of Alice's hair being an extension of the dress/outfit she is currently wearing? Each dress would then have a distinct hairstyle enhancing the look of each dress. Imagine the ladies turning out for a Royal Wedding and the hats they might wear...only the hats are Alice's hair. Regardless, the artwork is enjoyable and easy on the eyes 😊

Completely agree, not liking this dress at all. Needs redesigning, not too sure what to suggest though... other than why she has those in your face hips?! Haha

Not a fan of the hair but I love the clown design overall

I don’t mind the dress or the hair, but it doesn’t make me think of “Alice” at all. The change in hair color (from black to red) makes me think of the Disney’s ver. of Queen of Hearts

2018-08-21 02:52:37 +0000 UTC
This one definitely needs reworking. The face and hair are too remniscent of the Queen of Hearts in Disney's Alice franchise.

SUGESSTION: think this dress has potential, I would ditch the muddy colors and stick with vibrant black red and white. And maybe pigtails or a loose bun in the hair, as that is what a lot of performers style their hair with

SUGGESTION: Look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harlequinade that has the first take on Harlequin clowns in England and work from there. It has what is considered the general costume and roles played.

I really like the idea of this clown costume it has potential it needs adjusting but overall I don't HATE it . maybe something more puppety? SUGGESTION so last week I made s comment about marbles and I thought I made throw in another idea. What if Alice had a slingshot with marbles she could collect with different damaging ability stun or electrocute or even just knock the head of their shoulders. I thought it would be a fun range weapon. Im excited for the chaos coin and I can't wait to get new Alice story bits 💗

I really like the circus dress. For some reason it reminds me of circus monster, one of my favorite horror song. I can just imagine her being forced to sing right now. "Hey get up you worthless circus monster". Anyone else here know that song?

Now that I've seen the full dress it has grown on me more (though the colors remind me of Christmas), but I still can't stomach the hair. It's nothing against Omri of course, just personal taste.

Not a fan of the hair. I think the costume is interesting though but with a different color scheme though. Maybe red and blue instead of the green.
