Jabberwock - King of Planets

If you watched the last livestream then you'll know I was meant to show a FINAL version of the King of Planets outfit and failed miserably. Omri sent a horde of paid assassins to the studio and I was severely punished. Aside from all that we had a good time and I'm pleased were were able to have all our EU-zone Patrons and fans involved in a live discussion. Lots of fun!
The outfit presented this week (in its final form) is something Alice might wear going into battle against the Jabberwock. We've talked a bit about this battle and how it might be presented as a false goal which Alice strives towards, realizing too late she's gone down the wrong path. When she extracts herself from this misguided attack... she'll have to face inward to go forward.
Though this outfit is "wrong" (in that it's part of Alice's misguided mission) it's still beautiful. I love the idea of stars spinning in Alice's hair, of portals into actual space embedded in the design. I can imagine Alice trailing stars and meteors as she moves around in this suit. NEW GOAL
We're now at 2,225 Patrons (as I write this) and I suspect we might hit 2,500 before end of month. I'll send out another MailChimp (spam) and do some other marketing this week to help us reach that goal. So... let's start planning our NEXT GOAL! I'm thinking about something simple and fun... another set of Embroidered Patches.
The last set of patches was really well received... and I think we'll copy/pasting that setup. Unlock Patch Set #2 at 3000(Is this the right Goal Number?) Patrons and for all Patrons at $5 and above? Thing is...
This is a sample of shipping costs... We included shipping last time around and that by itself is a minimum of $5 (going to the US) and $6.40 (going to Canada) and lots more going to other places... upwards of $10+ to some distant locations. That's not even including the cost of the design, manufacturing, and packaging of the patches. So...
Would everyone be OK if we set the limit at $10 and above?
I'm trying to keep the Patron rewards + shipping as close to our cost as possible (as was done with the first patch set and the Chaos Coin). Thoughts on this? Trying to be as transparent as possible on this stuff and avoid surprises and upset. QUESTIONS and FEEDBACK below!
BTW, the GOAL of the Goal is to maintain our Patron numbers and avoid a massive overnight crash in numbers once we've gone past end of August. Keeping our total number of Patrons high sends a clear signal to potential investors and publishers that there's a rabid fanbase willing to put their $ where their desires are. This is critical.
So, if you're reading this and thinking, "I'll jump ship once I've got my Chaos Coin" please consider sticking around at $1 going forward. The $ is helpful but the total Patron count also has a very positive impact on our efforts. Thanks!
WIKI / DISCORD CONTRIBUTORS
We've just launched our Discord Server and linked it to Patreon. If you're a Patron and already have a Discord Account, then you should have automatically been added to our server when it launched earlier today*. If you don't know what Discord is - don't worry - I sorta didn't either until a few minutes ago! It's a lighter/faster version of Skype or TeamSpeak. Basically a chat and messaging service we can use to share ideas, coordinate our efforts, and manage the Asylum.
We're also going to leverage it to help organize our thoughts in the Asylum Wiki. The wiki is where we want to outline our vision for Alice: Asylum. If you've not yet heard - we're doing something we might call Crowd Designing (ala crowdfunding, etc) of the new game. You've already seen this in action if you've been part of our Patreon community or watched our live streams. One of our Inmates will put forth an interesting idea and we'll say, "yeah, that sounds great" - and it becomes a part of the thing we're building.
First thing I want to stress about this: We have NO IDEA what we're doing. I've made a lot of games and worked with a lot of teams all around the world over the past 25 years... but I've never engaged directly with the fan base to design and write a game. That's OK because I like to think I have no idea what I'm doing even around those things people think I'm an expert at. The moment you say you know something you stop learning...
I digress. Point is, we're going to learn and create something new together. A community, a game, a way of designing a game, a way of producing a game. All that stuff. I'm glad it's like this because otherwise I'd be bored! ;)

Think of it as a sort of application / filter Martin and I can use to sort through all those interesting in contributing and making some informed decisions about the shape of the initial group.
WHAT'S NEXT
Over the coming weeks we'll start to drill down into specific chapters, story beats, and other narrative elements which will help to define Alice's journey in Asylum. Behind the scenes I've already started work on this with RJ and will share our progress with you in upcoming Patreon Posts, YouTube Livestreams, Wiki entries, and Discord Discussions. Whew! Lots going on!!!

But what if the first time through her stages she does wear the pleading dress, but when she gains confidences she could wear this one when she goes back to the bargaining stage? Like she has to return to unlock other area's but the second time around she has more confidence in what she's doing and their are tougher enemies?

I think requiring Patrons to be at the $10 tier or higher is reasonable, especially if it's keeping close to what shipping will be. I really love this outfit for Alice. I love the lapels--the galaxy looks beautiful, as well as on the back. Adding the stars scattered throughout her hair was a nice tie-in. Well done Omri!

I'd be OK if you set the next goal at a minimum of $10. Second, the outfit is beautiful, I love the stars spinning in Alice's hair. In fact, everything about the upper part seems pretty cool, however, I'm still not "feeling " the lower part. I can't figure it out... for me, is something about the pants, the shoes and their colors. The combination seems a little bit off, I'm sorry I'm being vague here, but something about them shoes feels wrong.

I really like the final version of this outfit :) loved the idea of portals into space on it and what you said about Alice leaving a trail of stars and such~ As for the patches, I think 3000 Patrons it's ok and that being at $10 sounds right. I think it's logical that you try to keep the prices of the goals in a way that is not a lose of money for you. I will personally remain a Patron and support a new Alice game all the way till it's done for as much $$$ as I can (not much tho' hahah). And I will continue to promote the project in all the ways I possibly can :) It's nice that we have a Discord server now. I really like the whole "Crowd Designing" idea. Even though I recently joined Patreon I already feel like a part of a development team doing the new Alice game xD BTW I absolutely love your transparency, in times where companies and developers try to keep everything they can secret (which is understandable to some degree)... The fact of you saying things like "I have no idea what we're doing" in all honesty it's really appreciated. I also think it will be very beautiful to see how people cosplay this :) On the new goal note, I think $10 is a perfectly reasonable price especially since we will get an exclusive Lulu patch with it <3

I want to know if Alice would resist killing and taking her weapon in hand? Like she tries to run first or cries after the first kill?

I love the patches but would like the goal to be at $5+ only because that’s where I’m at haha but if it needs to be at 10 I completely understand. Now for a random QUESTION/SUGGESTION will Alice see her family as ‘ghosts’ throughout the game? I think it would be a cool idea for her to see them whilst walking through the wonderland and asylum and that would go in part with the horror aspect of the game. Start by seeing them as Alice remembers them and then later see them burned, bloody, decaying etc. Would love to see how that artwork would look :)

The fact that it is so different from what she usually wears, may add a bit to the sense of 'something's not right'. It also radiates some confidence and "let's get down to business" resolution, which just adds even more to the confusion and devastation, when the battle is done and she realizes what's really up. Love the new set of patches. 10$ seems fair, if the alternative is you losing money on these goals. Personally, I'm gonna stick to my usual pledge level and bump'em up to reward level when a goal is near (like now with the chaos coin). I will of course not abandon ship <3 I want to thank you for saying, that you have no idea what you're doing with this. A lot of industries rely on our insecurity and belief that we can't do things, so we keep buying their sh*t. A lot of life is just making it up as you go along and learn along the way, but many people seem too scared or insecure to even start. So it's truly inspiring to see people doing great and being reminded that they are just people like us, not gods. I've found the courage to just do things ever never done before, and even if it fucks up, I'm always happy that I didn't let fear of failure stop me. So again, thank you <3

I think sending the patches to $10 and up patrons is fair; $10 seems like what a similar set of patches would go for in the retail world. The Jabberwock outfit is probably my least favorite thus far; I may be biased because I just love dresses, but something just seems a little off to me when I look at it. It just doesn’t strike me as Alice-y. I love all the thought put into each design, though, and the stars in her hair are a beautiful touch. I have never used Discord before so I’m excited to join!

2018-08-20 12:12:35 +0000 UTCI like the dress. It's beautiful. But to wear it when she goes to fight the Jabberwock? I don't see it as that all. The blue armor dress is more suited towards that. I see this dress used during the small segments where we choose which world to go into. Like a "Hub" dress, if you will. Then when we enter the chosen level/world, the dress changes into the corresponding one to that level/theme. Makes more sense to me. Discord, I have one, but not yet linked on here. I'll wait to see how people like it before joining. As for patches. It did take us quite a bit just to hit 2000. 2500-2750 would be a safer bet. 3000 seems like a big stretch because I have a feeling quite a few people are going to jump ship after they get their coin...

We are after all here to help you and your game, not anything that the shipping money goes for. The dress, while not being one of my favourites, looks fine. The concept especially is of the most positive character. Stars moving in her hair for the wow-factor and the idea of a false mission really sparks an interest for what the story will bring. On a side-note though the pants feels sort of out of place in my opinion, not regarding any actual historical factors but just in comparision to the rest of the dress. Especially the backside of the pants feels very meager and just straight. Its just my opinion at the moment, and it may even change as i read others take on it.

One thing to maybe point out to people who have come in at the $35 level to get the coin is that if they keep it there for 3 months they also get art, which I'm having as a nice Christmas pressie to myself and then will be dropping back down to my previous more affordable level of patronage. The outfit is fab, love the stars in her hair and the idea of her trailing them through the lvl is really cool

(SUGGESTION) The 10$ seems pretty fair and the 3000 goal seems doable even if there's a drop in patrons. I love the second patch set too, will it have different backing art to make it a little different from the first? (QUESTION) I think that's be really cool.

It's great to see the suit/dress still incorporated in the game, and I like the idea of it being kind of like a misguided/false thing. It's a good way to still have some growth/progression in the game, even if it is misguided growth, despite it having to end on a not-too-happy note with it being a prequel to the first game. Great idea! Totally fine with the patches being for $10 and higher, I'm willing to pay that for them! I loved the first set already, but I think I like this one even better.
