SPEAK NO EVIL

How many of you have seen the original versus the remake? I’ve seen both now. I have many opinions lol. But I was curious to hear what others thought. Both films miss the mark for different reasons for me. There’s a good film somewhere in between.

Thats interesting. I thought the original worked well as a satire on polite society. Im curious how they adapted the scene for American audiences. Thats it ----I'm watching it tonight!!!

I thought the original ending served the theme (dangers of polite society ) well. But you've made me curious to watch the new film.

O. B

It did not. But I do not think the first film worked either. Sometimes the original is closer to what I think the perfect version should be. But overall...there was a campiness and a humor that I found appealing. I struggle a lot with the original, once it's all said and done

I saw the original. It was my favourite movie of that year. Its not a film you "enjoy". But it is a film you feel long after you've seen it. I read that the remake changed the ending completely - which kinda makes it a totally different movie. Did it work?

O. B

haha I laughed at that too XD. But yeah, not many people in my theater at all.

Yeah, I laughed way too much at times like for example I probably shouldn't have. I will admit when Paddy throws Ant into the pond towards the end I was laughing. I'm just happy I was the only person in the auditorium.

though I will say...when Patti says "Oh...that wasn't dancing" about his son in that pivotal scene....I laughed really hard in the original. That one moment had better black comedy than both films combined

I actually think I prefer the third act in the new one to the original. Neither are ideal at all. But the new one tried to at least balance things with humor/camp and the motivations felt more clear. The old was pretentious. Going for shock value without a clear motive often. It comes off as second-rate Lars Von Trier to me. The line "Because you let us" resonates far less in the original. in fact...it kinda made me mad. So while yes, I think there are many things that are better about the original...I think it's lost almost more than the new, quite frankly

So I watched the 2024 movie yesterday & I watched the original this morning & I must say I do overall prefer the original but I do think the newer film does have some things I overall enjoy about it. For me personally the first two acts of the 2024 film I am invested but that 3rd act just dropped the ball. I wouldn't say I loved the 2022 movie especially once the family decides to go back to the home. I did enjoy the last few minutes admittedly but I am also a sucker for downer endings.
