STRANGE DARLING

I tried real hard not to give away many spoilers in my review. Only because, I know some will completely ignore me and watch the review anyway lol. But I think I did alright. If you guys have seen it, let me know your thoughts.

Just finished watching it a little while ago. I dug it. Willa and Kyle gave great performances. Actually, the whole cast was great and very believable. I thoroughly enjoyed the cinematography from Giovanni. Good amounts of gore throughout. No good horror movie skimps on that element. And it definitely circumvented my expectations. I can’t wait to see what JT Mollner does next.

Just watched it, it was fantastic! Funny story, I made a cheap short film with a friend last year that had a similar skeletal structure to this one. I just ended up dumping it on YouTube, but I thought that was neat that I had ideas that this filmmaker also had, and that he’s getting acclaim for it. It gave me some creative motivation.

Yeah, if there was one thing I’d change about the film, I’d make the old experienced cop a woman and the young dumb one a man. The point would have still been obvious, but at least it would have been more nuanced and not as easy of a target for people who want to write off this film as misogynistic.

Yeah this is a very hard one to talk about without spoilers! Just saw it today and really loved it! Loved the way it was shot and edited. Willa Fitzgerald is dynamite! Easily one of the best performances of the year (she was also great as a young Mary McDonnell in The Fall of the House of Usher) and I think Kyle Gallner brilliant and underrated! My one big issue is the cop scene towards the end. I appreciate what they were going for but the whole thing just felt extremely heavy handed, which was disappointing because the dialogue up to that point was achieved the same effect effortlessly. But it's really not a deal breaker at all. Definitely the most fun I've had since Furiosa

Finally got a chance to see it today. Prolly my fav movie so far this year. Unfortunately, due to some context clues in marketing and trailer, I did see the twist coming. And Some of the dialogue was a little on the nose with the themes (which is par for the course nowadays). But, that didn’t ruin it for me! Had style AND substance with little to zero pretentiousness.

I dunno. I've had plenty of experience with cops. And I'm kind of a cop bodycam watching addict. I feel like it was exactly accurate lol.

She was also great in MTV's Scream TV show, even though the show itself wasn't very good (imo)

Loved it! Hopefully this launches Willa Fitzgeralds career. Ribisi’s cinematography was also great! Apparently he has been doing music videos for awhile. The only thing that really bothered me was the cop scene when they find them. Felt too on the nose in more ways than one. Otherwise one of my favorites of the year for sure.

I think you did a good job but it’s really hard to go in-depth with this film without spoilers. I would just tell people that it’s an intense experience and go into the film blind (and also jokingly say that it’s the best Tarantino rip-off in 20 years haha). I’m really glad this film is looking to be Willa Fitzgerald’s breakout performance! I first saw her in this show called Dare Me, which had potential but was obviously cancelled before it had a chance to stretch itself. She’s a perfect modern day femme fatale. She has a wholesome beauty but there’s something within her eyes that hints at a darkness bubbling underneath - which is evident in both Strange Darling and Dare Me, as well as Flanagan’s Fall of the House of Usher series.

Based on the poster, I assumed it was cosmic horror, so within the first few minutes, I was disappointed. And I hated the Chapter title cards at first too, it was also used in Longlegs and I thought it was incredibly tedious. But as Strange Darling went on, I realized what the director was doing - I was absolutely hooked. My favorite thriller of the year so far.
